Obituary
Verna J. Wirrenga, 81, Jamestown, ND passed away peacefully Wednesday morning September 22, 2021 at Sanford Health in Bismarck, ND.
Verna J Ammon was born August 5, 1940 at Jamestown, ND the daughter of John Ammon and Hulda (Geiszler) Ammon. She received her elementary education in rural township schools and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1958. Following high school graduation, she worked at the Jamestown Hospital in admissions. In 1962 she started working at the ND State Hospital as a stenographer, switch board operator, estate clerk, and other secretarial positions.
She and Donald Wirrenga were married June 22, 1962 at the American Lutheran Church in Gackle, ND. They made their first home in Jamestown. In 1979 they moved to Nortonville to the Wirrenga family farm where they farmed, raised a family, while she continued parttime employment at the NDSH. In 2004 they retired and moved back to Jamestown where they have resided since.
Verna was full of life and had a very outgoing personality; everyone she knew was a friend. She loved being around other people, visiting, playing cards, playing the accordion and polka dancing. Verna and Don spent many happy hours on the dance floor. She really enjoyed being with her family even if it meant camping on a rainy weekend! She was also a gifted seamstress and enjoyed crocheting as well.
Another big part of Verna’s life was her unwavering faith and commitment to the Lord. She was born and baptized into the Lutheran faith. She has served the Lord faithfully throughout her life. She was a current member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND where she was a Sunday School Teacher and member of the Dorcas Circle. She was a past member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Adrian where she served as Superintendent of Sunday School. We can all rejoice, learn by her example, and take comfort in this.
Surviving is her husband Don, Jamestown, ND; sons, Wayne (Karlene), Casper, WY; Dion (Shannon) Wirrenga, Bismarck, ND; Davin (Kristi) Wirrenga, Montpelier, ND; 8 grandchildren, Megan (Justin), Austin (Erin), Ashton (Caleb), Jaden (Brooke), Malitta, Omrey, Jadrienne and Gavin; 3 great grandchildren, Jacob, Kenton, and Laney; brothers, Melvin (Evelyn) Ammon, Lakeville, MN; Milton (Leona) Ammon, Apple Valley, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Eugene, and infant twin grandsons Otto & Elliott.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday September 29, 2021 in Concordia Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Thomas Eckstein, pastor officiating.
Interment will be made in the Nortonville Cemetery, Nortonville, ND.
Visitation 9-6 Tuesday at the Funeral Home and 1 hour before services.
