Obituary

Cynthia Susan "Susie" Reyerson, 89, died Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at HIA Heather's House, Fargo, North Dakota.

Cynthia was born September 2, 1936, to William Henry Rice and Mamie Valpuri (Sissala) Rice in Bessemer, MI.

She graduated high school in Bessemer in 1954 and continued her education, earning her registered nurse license.

She moved to California and was employed as a stewardess, traveling the country in that capacity. Later, she moved back to Bessemer and was employed as a school nurse. It was there that she met the handsome history teacher from North Dakota. They fell in love and she married James Harold Reyerson on December 30, 1960.

Jim and Susie moved to North Dakota and made their home in Finley, where she became the county nurse. It was here they welcomed their son, Christopher, and daughter, Valerie.

The family moved to Jamestown in 1970, where they built the house that became a home and haven for their children, and grandchildren and many of their children's and grandchildren's friends. Mom welcomed and provided her "adopted" grandchildren a safe place when one was needful for them.

Most recently Susie resided in Fargo in assisted living to be closer to Chris.

She is survived by her son, Chris (Jackie) Reyerson, of Fargo; her daughter, Valerie Reyerson, Jamestown; grandchildren, Aaron, Nickolas (Jessica), Ulrich and Ian Koble, Jessica Reyerson, Ellyssa Walter, Whitney Trautman, Krisanne Reyerson, and 10 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved sister, Sheila Hedberg, Escanaba, MI; brother-in-law, David (Betty) Reyerson, of Fargo and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her older brothers, Billy and Donald; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenny and Kjellaugh Reyerson; and her niece, Cheryl Ralston, with whom she shared a special bond.

A Memorial Service for Susie will be held, 2:30 PM, Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Haut Funeral Home, 1101 5th Ave. NE, with Pastor Kristi Weber presiding. Inurnment will take place at the Sharon, ND Cemetery in the spring.

Sue made beautiful Forget Me Not bouquets for our wedding cake. She and Jim gave us stainless steel bowls which we still use daily. A gifted lady!

So many memories of Aunt Susie! At 6, she helped me find my food on a plate after eye surgery in Marquette. My eyes were bandaged for awhile making food hard to find and hard to get in my mouth! She had me imagine my plate like a clock and described what food was where. Example: peas were at 3 o’clock. That worked well. Family picnics in the U.P, gathering for my dad’s (Donald Rice) 91st birthday in Bessemer, and visiting me in Sitka, Alaska in 1985…and I’m still here. . I stopped by Jamestown twice when driving cross country. Ample food was at the ready to fill my belly and a comfy bed was ready to lay my cramped and exhausted body on after these marathon driving trips. Aunt Susie had a heart full of love, liberally shared with so many.

Cheerful and helpful. From our family and my parents, Elnora (Sissala) and Roderick Charleston, we want to say thanks for the enjoyable times together. Never forget the family reunions or Mariachi band in Milwauke area. She will surely be missed and rest in peace for all her good deeds.
