Obituary

Martha Schlittenhard, 95, Gackle, ND died Thursday August 3, 2006 at the Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, ND.

Martha Roemmich was born February 25, 1911 at the family farm home near Streeter, ND, the daughter of Henry and Sophia (Metzger) Roemmich. She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education and grew to womanhood in the vicinity.

She and Edward Schlittenhard were married September 5, 1948 at Jamestown, ND. They made their home in Gackle where Martha was a housewife. After their retirement they entered the Rosewood Nursing Home in Fargo. Following the death of her husband December 12, 1997, she moved back to Gackle in the spring of 1998.

She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and very active in church and community affairs.

She is survived by her son, Duwayne ‘Dewey' (Jeanne) Schlittenhard, Bismarck, ND, 1 grand daughter, Sarah (Jason) Bowe, Lafayette, IN, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Albert Roemmich, McMinnville, OR, Henry Roemmich, Cody, WY, Edna Sheetz, Jamestown, ND, Erna Martin, Tappen, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 4 brothers, Ervin, Walter, Gideon, William, and 1 sister, Amelia.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday August 7, 2006 at the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle, ND, with Rev. Timothy Blackman, pastor officiating.

The interment will be made in the Gackle Cemetery at Gackle, ND.

Prayer Service - 7:00 P.M. Sunday @ the funeral home in Gackle
Visitation - 1 - 9 Saturday & 9 - 9 Sunday

I first heard of Martha through our son Jason. After meeting her with Sarah, (Martha's Grand daughter)he came home and said "Mom she is the neatest lady and she is only as tall as my waist." On several family occasions we have since had the pleasure of spending time with Martha. On one such occasion we visited her in Gackle for an auction we were interested in seeing. Spunky as ever she went with us and then we went back to her beautiful house for a fantastic meal topped off with about six different kinds of kuchen. Martha was a wonderful cook, seamstress gardener and grandma. She welcomed our son into her life and showered him with affection. Martha had a guest book at her house filled with visitors names that had visited her through the years. I, like many others that have signed her book, was saddened to hear of her passing. In a week or so Jason and Sarah are about to have Marha's first gradchild. I can only hope that some of Martha's energy and talent will be passed onto her and that she will love life like Martha has.

Martha was one of my favorite all time people, along with her sister Edna. I'm so glad that I brought my 98 year old mother, Nora, back to North Dakota to visit her and others in the summer of 2005. And--I know Martha is now enjoying the presence of the Lord and all the loved ones that went before her. Martha----please say Hi to my son Brett and my first wife, Gretchen. I have such fond memories of Martha and Ed. I remember we were married on the same day and often celebrated togather. She will be missed but she is HOME. God Bless her memory.
