John Splonskowski, 79, Jamestown, ND died Monday May 20, 2024 at his home in Jamestown.

John was born June 5, 1944 at Braddock, ND, the son of Raymond and Mildred (Kippes) Splonskowski. He received his elementary education at Braddock. He attended high school at St. Mary’s High School in Bismarck and graduated in 1962.

John then graduated in 1966 from St. Mary’s College at Winnona, MN. He received his Master’s Degree from NDSU

John and Carol Maxson were married August 28, 1971 at Devils Lake, ND. They made their home in Bismarck until moving to Jamestown in 1973. He worked for the Jamestown Public Schools as a guidance counselor until retiring in 2004. John also did carpentry work in the summers for many years.

He was a member of the Basilica of St. James, sang for the  church choir and Jamestown Choralaires, and member of the Knights of Columbus.

John is survived by his wife, Carol, Jamestown, ND; 3 children, Kyle (Tressa) Splonskowski, Jamestown, ND, Darren Splonskowski, Omaha, NE, Lesley (Nathan) Cuvala, Boise, ID; 8 grandchildren; 8 brothers and sisters, Mary Richter, Agnes Vetter, both of Linton, ND, Paul, Frances and Marvin, all of Bismarck, ND; Jerry, NC, Rita Falconer, Bismarck, ND, Alice Schatz, Linton, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 sisters.

My sincere condolences to the Splonskowski family. Kyle and I grew up and played sports together and I graduated with his daughter-in-law Tressa; both great people. My first memory of Mr. Splonskowski is telling me not to throw my baseball bat after swinging when I was probably 7 years old, and he was always a positive presence thereafter at all our tournaments. Later he became my guidance counselor and later yet, a good friend to my dad at the coffee table. It's an understatement to mention that his influence, along with other dads like him being around during my formative youth, made us who we are. He will be missed.
