Mavis Joyce Presser, 65, Jamestown, ND died Saturday morning July 12, 2008 at the Ava Maria in Jamestown, ND.

Mavis Elhard was born January 6, 1943 at Edgeley, ND, the daughter of Henry Elhard and Olinda (Kalmbach) Elhard. She attended the local school and graduated from Jud High School in 1961 and later attended Beauty School at Jamestown.

She and Leon Presser were married April 22, 1966 at Jamestown, ND. They made their home in Jamestown until moving to Oakes, ND. After 4 years in Oakes, they moved back to Jamestown where she did bookkeeping for her husband's implement business.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, was a cook on the Ft. Seward Trail Rides for 4 years, a Girl Scout Leader and also helped with Holiday Fruit Basket at Leevers.

She is survived by her husband, Leon, 2 children, Belinda Scott, Chad (Denise) Presser, 3 grandchildren, Kyle (Tanya Buchanan) Presser, Cameron Presser, Brett Presser, 1 great granddaughter, Jayda Presser, all of Jamestown, ND, 5 sisters and 2 brothers, Jane Baab, Jamestown, ND, Delores (Robert) Shepard, Ocean Park, WA, Florence Schuldheisz, Spiritwood, ND, Yvonne Mayer, Oakes, ND, Linda (Marlow) Quam, Tolna, ND, Gary (Carol) Elhard, Mandan, ND, Duane (Maryanne) Elhard, Jud, ND, and 3 very close friends, Donna Wanzek, Sharon Heim, and Phyllis Kleinknecht.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday July 17, 2008 in the St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Dennis Ellingsen, officiating.

I am so sorry for the loss of your wife, mother, and friend. I have known Mavis for just a short time but we did enjoy some great "food" debates! I was also fortunate enough to share the kitchen with Mavis on several occasions when she cooked her famous meals for the staff. I enjoyed her company very much and will think of her every time I use one of her "tricks" in the kitchen. May God bless with His healing mercy. Linda Johnson Activities, AMV

My sympathies to you all, I wish I could be there. I remember Mavis was welling to open your house for many family gatherings. May you find comfort by being with family at this time.

lEON & fAMILY: SHARILYN AND I WERE SO SORRY TO HEAR OF MAVIS PASSING. WE HAD WORKED WITH HER ON THE FORT SEWARD WAGON TRAIN WHEN SHE WAS THE HEAD COOK FOR SEVERAL YEARS. My sympathy goes out to Leon and his family for the loss of Mavis. I worked with Mavis at Central Dakota Village as one of the nurses when I lived in Jamestown, ND. I loved visiting with Mavis even when I returned for some visits. God Bless you Mavis, and rest in peace.
