James DeWitt, 75, Jud, ND died Tuesday April 21, 2009 at his home NW of Jud, ND.

James DeWitt was born August 3, 1933 at Jamestown, ND, the son of Harry DeWitt and Christina (Nitschke) DeWitt. He received his elementary education at Alfred Public School and graduated from Gackle High School in 1951.

He entered the United States Army July 9, 1953 at Fargo, ND and served in Korea while stationed in Japan. He was discharged June 3, 1955 at Ft. Carson, CO with the rank of CPL.

He and Judy Wegner were married October 5, 1956 at Stevenson, WA. They made their home in Roseberg, OR for 1 year and then moved to Alfred, ND for 1 year, before moving to their home on a farm NW of Jud where they continue to reside.

He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle, ND. He also was a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and was also on the Mikkleson Township Board. He enjoyed farming and his friends.

He is survived by his wife Judy, Jud, ND; 3 sons, Bryan (Barbara) DeWitt, Hazen, ND; Nolan DeWitt, New Port, MN; Jason (Tammy) DeWitt, Bismarck, ND; 6 grandchildren, Jerrod (Trista)DeWitt, Jameson DeWitt, Fargo, ND; Tyler DeWitt, Hannah DeWitt, New Port, MN; Katie DeWitt, Cody DeWitt, Bismarck, ND; 2 great grandchildren, Shanie DeWitt, Fargo, ND and Natalie DeWitt, Fargo, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, 1 granddaughter,

The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday April 25, 2009 at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Tim Blackman, officiating.

The interment will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND.

Visitation: 9 - 5 Thursday 9-8 Friday at the Haut Funeral Home - Jamestown

There are so many memories with family, friends, and good old fashioned hard work. Spring planting, fence fixing, haying, and the most important was fall harvesting. Then feeding the cows in the winter time. I enjoyed my life on the farm and being with my father. Although I am not living on the farm, I hope I can inspire the many good memories in my children that was instilled in me. I love you DAD!!! I sure am going to miss those Sunday morning phone calls. :( Jason

Judy & Family, We will sure miss Jim showing up in the yard for coffee. He definitely had a way of brightening everyone's day! The guys will miss his "Hey There" - as he headed for the shop for cookies!

My sympathies to Judy, the boys, and the rest of the family. Jim was a great uncle. I remember him always flipping his cap up and making funny faces when I was a little girl and just making us kids giggle! He bought me a print at an auction that was in an old frame, of a couple horses, and gave it to me. I still have it hanging in my living room. I love that picture and think of him everytime I look at it. He will be terribly missed. We all have great memories of him and we can all cherish those. Thanks Uncle Jim for all the smiles and laughs. I'll miss you.
