Obituary

Leonard Graves, 69, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday morning December 30, 2009 at his home in Jamestown, ND.

Leonard was born February 21, 1940 at Woodworth, ND, the son of Arthur Graves and Gladys (Nelson) Graves. He attended school in Pingree and Riverdale, ND. In 1953 he moved with his family to Oxnard, CA where he continued school until volunteering for the draft.

He entered the United States Army January 7, 1958 at Fargo, ND. He finished high school and graduated in 1958. He served in Korea for 1 year and returned to the California. He was Honorably discharged from the Army January 6, 1960 with the rank of Specialist 4th Class. He returned to Jamestown.

He and Darlene Johnson were married July 3, 1962 at Jamestown, ND. They made their home in Jamestown where he worked for Pres's Floor Covering. In 1965 he started Len's Floor Installations. He also worked for and later purchased Jamestown Commodity Warehouse with Darlene from 1970-1980. He continued to help family and friends with floor covering and remodeling in which he was extremely talented and precise. He held a very high standard of work ethic, not allowing to cut corners or short cuts.

He enjoyed dancing, music, telling jokes, cards, carpentry and woodworking.

He was a member of the Am Vets, and lifetime member of the Eagles and Elks.

He is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters, Lisa (Rory) Froehlich, Fairfax, VA; Mitch (Jean) Graves, Longmont, CO; Darin Graves, Vancouver, WA; Traci (Marlyn) Bertsch, Jamestown, ND; 7 grandchildren, and 1 sister, Eleanor Dunwoodie, Jamestown, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Severend, Gerald, and 1 sister, Delores (Dolly) Johnson.

Leonard requested no services.
