Gustav (Gust) Wanner April 13, 1916 - February 12, 2010 Gustav (Gust) Wanner, 93, Wishek, North Dakota died early Friday morning February 12, 2010 at the Wishek Community Hospital in Wishek, ND.
Gust Wanner was born April 13, 1916 in McIntosh County, South of Wishek, ND, the son of John Wanner and Maria (Koch) Wanner. He received his elementary education in the local rural school and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm.
He and Leah Lingert were married October 3, 1939 SW of Wishek, ND.
Following their marriage they moved to Minneapolis, MN where Gust worked at the Hotel Nicollet and Athletic Club until moving to Vancouver, WA where he worked in the shipyards. They moved back to Wishek in 1944 and farmed for 2 years. After moving into Wishek, Gust worked for Herr's Store for 8 years. He then worked for Sayler's for 12 years, which included the Sayler Lumber Yard. In 1972 Gust became self-employed doing many different types of jobs, from helping area farmers with their livestock to cement and carpentry work. Since retirement, Gust enjoyed participating in flea markets and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and Leah also enjoyed traveling to Germany 3 times to visit relatives there. He very much enjoyed doing puzzles. He also contributed information to the Germans from Russia; being included in videos of his recollection of history, relating to the early history of the Wishek area.
Gust had a very positive attitude toward life. He enjoyed visiting with people. He will be missed by those who knew him and his positive way about life.
He was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Wishek, ND.
Surviving are his children, Sally (John) Bitz, Bismarck, ND; Betty (Larry) Halvorson, Fargo, ND; Leland (Sue) Wanner, Dahinda, IL; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents,wife in 2005, 4 brothers and 5 sisters.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday February 16, 2010 in St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Wishek, ND with Pastor Adam Roberts, officiating.
Intermentwill be at St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery, Wishek, ND (In the Spring)
Visitation - Monday 10 - 8 at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Wishek
