Elroy Lang, 86, Jamestown, ND died Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, ND.

Elroy Lang was born December 18, 1923 on the family farm home south of Cleveland, ND, the son of Fred Lang and Emma (Haas) Lang. He attended the local rural school where he received his elementary education. He attended Sheyenne River Academy in Harvey, ND, and graduated in 1944. He attended Walla Walla College in Washington and received his BS in Mathematics; later receiving his Master's Degree at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO.

He and Maxine Kom were married June 18, 1950 at Willamina, Oregon. They made their 1st home in Sutton, ND. He was a high school math teacher, teaching at various towns around North Dakota, until moving to Jamestown, ND. They retired in Jamestown in 1985. Following the death of Maxine, in April of 2010, Elroy continued to reside in Jamestown.

He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jamestown, ND.

He enjoyed coin collecting and being in the outdoors. He assisted Maxine in her garden. He also enjoyed morning visits at Hardees for coffee.

He is survived by his sister-in law, Olga (Floyd) Lang-Rodin, Jamestown, ND and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, twin brother, Marvin and younger brother, Clarence.

The Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday October 21, 2010 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jamestown, ND with Pastor Darren Purdy, officiating.

The interment will be at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND.

Visitation: 9-8 Wednesday October 20, 2010 at the Funeral Home in Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM Wednesday October 20, 2010 at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Lang's passing. He was a great math teacher. It was so good to see both Mr. Lang & his wife when I was back to LaMoure for the big celebration in 2007. He was a very special man.

When I consider my favorite teachers of all time, Mr. Elroy Lang rates near the top of the list. I have often said that he could teach a cow to do math because of his clear and thorough explanations. He rubbed his bald head and pointed out that "Grass doesn't grow on busy streets." I am grateful for the patience and kindness of Mr. Lang in my life. Rest in well-deserved peace, Mr. Lang.

LaMoure High School was very fortunate to have had Mr. Lang for our math teacher. He made our classes both challenging and entertaining. He would crack jokes and the next minute present us with a question that required us to put on our thinking caps. I will always remember him wearing the large chalk board compass around his neck. What a great guy!

My career and my life would have different if Elroy Lang had not been part of it. It truly mattered that Mr. Lang got up and went to work in the morning. He was one of the best.
