Obituary

Irene Christine Blahna, 87, passed away Wednesday January 21, 2015 in Jamestown, ND.

Irene Mettler was born October 12, 1927 in Beulah, ND to Otto and Ida (Erdman) Mettler.

She and William (Bill) Blahna were married on January 11, 1949 at Moorhead, MN. They spent their entire live on the family farm near Kensal, ND. In the early years they enjoyed roller skate dancing at Red Willow and fishing. In later years Irene became an avid walker.
Irene worked hard on the farm. The first year she farmed with her son Jim she went round for round with him pulling a five bottom plow.

She loved the land. Irene enjoyed spending time with her family and the grandchildren; most recently "fishing" with her great granddaughter Alivia.

She is survived by 5 daughters, Jackie (Steve) Blahna-Becker, Minot, ND, Betty Blahna, Los Angeles, CA, Suzanne (Rod) Mathwich, Prescott, WI, Christie Herman, Moorhead, MN, Cindy (Donnie) Colvin, Sylvania, AL; 1 son, Jim Blahna, Kensal, ND; 3 sisters, Agnes Wiedrich, Beulah, ND, Veda Stellwagen, WI, LaVerne (Neil) Dassey, WI; 2 brothers, Leroy Mettler, WI, Richard Mettler, International Falls; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and 2 special friends, Deb Mertz and Jenny Schultes.

She was preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Blahna; 3 sons, William (Bill), Kenneth and Michael; 1 grandson, Joshua; 1 brother, Gilbert; 1 sister, Rufina; and her parents.

Funeral Service - 2:00 pm Monday January 26, 2015 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kensal, ND

Prayer Service - 7:00 pm Sunday night at the Haut Funeral Chapel

Interment - Kensal City Cemetery at Kensal, ND

Sincere condolences to my cousins. I will miss Auntie Irene. She was a hard worker and loved to laugh. I have fond memories of the farm and the wonderful meals she cooked.
