Rudolph ‘Rudy’ Nitschke, 92, Jud, North Dakota died Friday evening February 2, 2018 at his home near Jud.

Rudy was born June 2, 1925 at Jud, ND, the son of Christian Nitschke and Victoria (Stehr) Nitschke. He attended the local school where he received his elementary education and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm. Following high school he entered the US Army on February 7, 1945 at Ft. Snelling, MN. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was discharged November 30, 1946 at Ft. Lewis WA with the rank of T-4.

He and Murel Adella Tompkins were married December 18, 1949 at the Trinity Congregational Church in Jud. They made their home on a farm 1 mile west and 1 mile south of Jud, where they farmed until 1988, at which time Rudy semi-retired and they moved to Jamestown to begin the next phase of their lives. Rudy continued to help his children on the family farm, while Murel worked for TSC, as a Travel Agent for Bus Tours, and Walmart. They resided in their second home until July of 2014 and in September of 2014 moved to Mandan where they lived until December of 2017 at which time they moved back to Jud.

Rudy was extremely active in the Jud community; he was a member of the UCC parish board, Bluebird Township Clerk, School Board member, advisory board to the James Valley Electric, superintendent of the Church for 25 years, Lions Club and Treasurer for the church as well as serving on many other community and school projects.

Honored to have shared in his life are his wife, Murel, Jud, ND, his children, Renee (Robert) Opp , Arvada, CO; James Nitschke, Mandan, ND; Brian Nitschke, Jud, ND; Kevin (Teri) Nitschke, Lincoln, ND; Corey (Susie) Nitschke, Jud, ND; Sheri Mackey, Ft. Pierre, SD; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 1 sister, Edna (Irvin) Kleingartner, Jamestown, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Ted, Richard, and 5 sisters, Hulda, Bertha, Otellia, Emma and Lorretta.

Interment will following the funeral service at the Jud Congregational Cemetery, Jud, ND

Following the burial there will be a lunch at the Jud Community Center in Jud, ND
