Obituary

LaVern D. Morlock, 94, formerly of Gackle, ND passed into her heavenly home Sunday, February 2, 2025 at SMP Health-Ave Maria in Jamestown.

LaVern Delaine Fraedrich was born March 14, 1930 on the family farm in Cass County ND. She was the oldest of 9 children born to Loren and Elpha (Boeder) Fraedrich. She remained on the family farm until her high school graduation from Enderlin High School in 1948.

LaVern attended Valley City State Teachers College and went on to teach country school at Logan County for 2.5 years.

She married the love of her life Walter Morlock on June 19, 1949. They made their home on a farm south of Gackle where they raised dairy cattle. She also raised chickens and geese, had a huge garden and canned a lot of produce and meat to get through the winter. She also enjoyed cooking and sewing.

She was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, and the ladies aid group. She also taught Sunday School for a number of years. After Walter’s death in 2018, LaVern became a ‘city girl’ when she moved to the Court Row Homes in Jamestown where she lived until 2021, when she moved into Edgewood Assisted Living. In 2024 she moved into SMP Health- Ave Maria where she was very active. She was a member of the senior choir and enjoyed a variety of activities, crafts, and bingo. She made several friends and enjoyed her ‘coffee time’.

Celebrating her life are her children, Cheryl (Marvin) Presler, Rosemount, MN; Gloria Netz and Larry (Deborah) Morlock, both of Jamestown; 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; 5 sisters, Phylis Schlecht, Beverly Robertson, Sharon (Jerry) Skamstad, Charlotte (Roger) Haarsager, Deborah (Kevin) Jordet and one brother, Gary (Randy) Fraedrich; and one sister in-law, Diane Fraedrich.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years; parents; son in-law, Alan Netz; 1 sister Janice Lee, 1 brother Harlin, 3 brothers in-law, Bob Lee, Sam Robertson, and Hilbert Schlecht.

LaVern will be remembered for her kind, positive spirit and her never give up attitude.

The family would like to thank the staff of Ave Maria for their caring and compassion support for loving LaVern. Thank you, mom, for always being our hero, for guiding me through troubles and joys. I promise you even though you have crossed over, that I will smile while your memories live on.
