Obituary
Cheryl Ann Schauer-Smith, 63, Kensal, ND passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018 surrounded by her children and grandchildren at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, ND.
Cheryl Schauer was born May 16, 1954 at Jamestown, ND, the daughter of Ervin and Magdalina (Speidel) Schauer. She attended school at Gackle/Streeter/Wishek/Medina and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1973.
She and Alvin Lee Smith were married December 22, 1979 at Valley City, ND. They made their home in Courtenay and Wimbledon where she worked at CM’s Place as a bartender. After her divorce she worked at Central Dakota, Cooperstown Medical Center and the ND State Hospital as a CNA. In 2007 she moved to Iowa and worked in Direct Care at the Community Care Center and DAK in DeWitt, IA. In 2016 she moved back to Kensal.
She is survived by her children, LaDon (Valerie) Smith, Kensal, ND; Crystal (Timothy) Rekenthaler, and Megan Robbins, both of Clinton, IA; 5 grandchildren, Noah, Eryn, Abygayle, Malachi and Jayce; 2 sisters, Joann (Gerald) Thu, Jamestown, ND; Tamara (Wayne) Berg, Nortonville, ND; her step brothers and sisters, Reo (Sandra) Fandrich, Medina, ND; Wanda Fandrich, Lynnfield, MA; Debra (James) Miner, Phoenix, AZ.
She was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, Virginia and 1 step brother, Darvin,

I so enjoyed my friendship with you Cheryl and will miss you dearly. Life gets busy with our own lives and we lose contact of those near and close to us on a daily bases but doesn't mean we left each others hearts and souls. Heaven gained an angel with you Cheryl. Cheryl thank you for being a part of my life then and now. I love and will miss you. Enjoy eternity and I am glad you aren't in pain anymore. I remember when we lived in Wimbledon, you helped me so much with life and growing up. You helped me with Melanie when she was a baby and I thank you. I remember the smiles she gave you and the smile on your face as well when you saw her. I saw how you adored her as she adored you. I will forever be grateful to you and your friendship. I am just sorry I didn't help ease your pain in illness but am glad that you were surrounded with your children and family with love. Your children and grandchildren are proud of you as you are very proud of them. Watch over them and guide them! Until we meet again.
