Obituary

Doris Dockter, 89, Streeter, ND died Friday March 16, 2018 at the Napoleon Care Center in Napoleon, ND.

Doris Schopp was born February 5, 1929 in Timber Lake, SD, the daughter of Adam and Katie (Stelzer) Schopp. In 1933 they moved back to the Streeter area. In 1935 they moved to the farm where she resided until 2013¸when she moved into the Napoleon Care Center. She received her education at a Logan County Farm School by Streeter.

Doris and Gottlieb J. Dockter were married April 5, 1946 at Streeter, ND. They made their home on the farm SE of Streeter where they farmed until 1975 when their son came home to farm. Doris and Gottlieb worked together on the farm. In April 1980 she started working for Logan County Social Services as in-home care provider. She worked there for 25 years and received her 25 year award and recognition, retiring in May 2005.

She was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Streeter, ND. She was lifetime member Streeter Legion Auxiliary, as Community Service Chairperson, and charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary, member of the Streeter Senior Citizens and was very active in the Streeter Buffalo Supper. She was known as the Gravy Lady and taught the next generation of gravy makers the secrets of her developed technique.

Because Doris was a tender hearted woman, she also took foster children into her home. Ruth Klein became the daughter she never had. She loved to garden and cared for her flowers. She carried that love of flowers to the front of the city hall, especially in preparation of Memorial Day. She also enjoyed fishing, traveling and cooking. Gottlieb and Doris provided opportunities for hunters from Minnesota and elsewhere. These hunters became special to Doris when they returned year after year. She spoiled them with traditional German cooking and baking and looked forward to their return each year. Doris also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandson.

She is survived by her 3 sons, Daryl (Velma) Dockter, Jamestown, ND; Larry (Karen) Dockter, Medina, ND; Duane (Linda) Dockter, Grand Rapids, MN; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; 1 foster daughter, Ruth Klein, Fargo, ND; 3 foster grandchildren and 1 brother, Lloyd (Violet) Schopp, Streeter, ND and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 2 great granddaughters.

I will treasure the beautiful memories close to my heart. The card you made me will be forever on display. God has taken a beautiful angel home. I will really miss you Doris but I thank God that he brought you and Gottleib into my life. You were a true blessing to me as you were to so many that knew you. Love you always.

Doris & Gottleib were always so gracious to welcome the hunters each and every year. We enjoyed their company and looked forward to watching the World Series with Doris each Fall. (seemed like the Yankee's and Derek Jeeter every year). The Buffalo supper was a highlight for the hunters and I know Doris enjoyed seeing us at the event. She will be missed by all who knew her. I was hard to see her move to Napoleon off the farm as I knew she loved the farm. She is looking down at all of us from heaven with a smile. God Bless Doris and the family. Sincerely, Michael Benson

Doris and Gottleib were very special friends of ours. They came to McLaughlin often to visit and attend the auction sales. We enjoyed many meals and visits together over the years. Their children also became very special friends and would visit and stay when ever in our area. Doris was a very good cook and also liked crocheting and made many doilies, scarves and endless canning of about everything that could be put in a jar. We enjoyed their visits and especially Gottleib's jokes. One thing that comes to mind is one night we were out dancing and and she asked Donnie to dance. He said he didn't know how very good. She said lets try it. When they came back to the table, Donnie said to Doris, Boy I sure hope I can dance as good as you when I get that old. They would always joke about it when we got together. What a great friend and person that we will always remember. Rest in Peace Doris. Get things ready for the rest of us when we get there. We Love You. Praying for your precious family during this time. May God give you all special peace during this time. Know your parents were very special people to not only yous but many more.
