Obituary

Arlene C. Ackerman, 85, formerly of Streeter, ND died Wednesday, May 30, 2018 in the Wishek Living Center, Wishek, ND.

Arlene Caroline Hummel was born August 8, 1932 to Frederick and Lydia (Roth) Hummel in rural McIntosh County. Arlene grew up on the family farmstead west of Venturia and attended school nearby.

Arlene married Raymond Ackerman on November 20, 1952. They lived in Ashley, ND and Rapid City, SD before settling in Streeter. In Streeter, they owned and operated the Ackerman’s Bar. She enjoyed serving and interacting with her customers. Arlene was affectionately referred to as ‘Shorty’. Arlene for many years also provided child daycare for many families in the Streeter area.

Arlene is survived by her nieces and nephews; Fred (Arla) Hummel, Shirley (Jon) Snider, Larry Hummel, Gary Hummel, and Myron (Dawn) Hummel as well as great-niece, Colleen (Dwight) Pfliger and special friends, Karla and Kevin.

Arlene was preceded in death her parents, Frederick and Lydia, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Rueben & Josephine Hummel, Clifford & Frieda Hummel, and Albert & Esther Hummel and two nieces, Jeanette Walz and Margie Hummel.

My heart aches to know this woman has passed on. She was such a loving and caring sweet woman that I'm glad to have taken care of at Wishek Nursing Home. I will surely miss her spunky sweet self. Prayers for your family, Shortie. You will be missed.

Although our heart aches, we're comforted in knowing that your pain free and happily reunited with Grandma and Grandpa in Heaven... Thank you for the joy you brought into our lives. Thanks for the memories and for babysitting me as a toddler while we lived on the farm. Oh, and thanks for hosting us while we honeymooned in Rapid City:) We'll never forget your kind heart, warm smile and loving hugs... Rest in Peace our sweet Aunt Arlene... We'll miss you so...!
