Irene Rivinius

Irene Rivinius, 93, Bismarck, ND formerly of the Gackle ND community died early Tuesday morning January 8, 2019 at the Augusta Place in Bismarck, ND.

Irene George was born October 16, 1925 at Wishek, ND the daughter of Jacob and Emelia (Gohl) George. She received her elementary education at Lehr Public School and grew to womanhood in the vicinity. In 1942 she moved with her parents to a farm south of Windsor, ND.

She and Lenhardt Rivinius were married May 26, 1944 at the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle, ND. They made their home in Gackle where Lenhardt started a fur buying business and in 1958 started his insurance business which he operated for 30 years. Following their retirement they continued to reside in Gackle. Following the death of her husband Dec. 1, 1989 she has continued to reside in Gackle until she recently moved to Bismarck.

Irene was a very accomplished woman with many talents and skills. She gardened and canned and grew beautiful flowers.

She knitted, crocheted, quilted and sewed liked a professional seamstress. She enjoyed playing cards and doing crossword puzzles. And she even wrote a book of memoires to share with her children and grandchildren. But her most accomplished skills were in the kitchen. She was renowned for her cooking and baking. She loved preparing meals, always topped-off with a wonderful dessert, for her family. She was so happy when her children came home and she always made sure there was a delicious German meal prepared and freshly baked pie or cake and always a batch of fresh cookies.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Gackle and was active in the Gleaners.

Surviving are her children, Sheryl (James) Bankes, Bismarck, ND; Dana (Joyce) Rivinius, Dickinson, ND; Susan (Steve) Teslow, Newberg, Oregon; David (Caryn) Rivinius, Gackle, ND; Lisa Rivinius, Fargo, ND; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren; one brother, Marvin George, Randolph MA;

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 great grandchild, 3 sisters, Mary, Martha, Erna.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday January 12, 2019 at the Grace Baptist in Gackle, ND with Rev. Merle Hoots, officiating.

Interment will be made in the Gackle City Cemetery, Gackle, ND (In the Spring)
