Obituary
Luella “Lucy” Schatz, 88, Jamestown, ND died Thursday, February 14, 2019 at her home in Jamestown.
Luella Orsund was born November 28, 1930 to Peder and Anna (Iverson) Orsund at Grafton, ND. Luella attended the local rural school near Nash, ND through the eighth grade and then went on to graduate from Grafton High School. Throughout high school and after she worked at the Nash General Store, the Nash Café, a family grocery store, and was Deputy Treasurer at the Walsh County Court House. She retired after 25 years from the North Dakota State Hospital where she was the dining room supervisor and dietary manager.
She and Sheldon Loftsgard were married in May of 1954; during his Air Force career they had six children and made their home in many states, including South Dakota, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri and Manila in the Philippines. She also married and divorced Chris Schatz.
Luella enjoyed traveling, casinos, garage sales, baking and fishing with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her 6 children, Todd (Barbara) Loftsgard, San Diego, CA; Liana Miller, Jamestown, ND; Shelley (Tom) Sharp. Bismarck, ND; Beth Loftsgard, Jamestown, ND; Denise MacDonald, Bismarck, ND; Pete (Debbie) Loftsgard, Jamestown, ND; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Wally (Terri) Orsund, Aitkin, MN; 4 sisters, Helen Schumacher and Phyllis Eng, both of Grafton, ND; Ellie Henderson, Fargo, ND; Margie Kennedy, Mesa, AZ; and her dear friend Diane Derheim.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, 4 nephews, 3 sister -in-laws, 5 brother in-laws and 2 son in-laws.
Memorial Service- 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND with Chaplain Kathleen Heller, officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to JRMC Hospice.

I worked with Lu in the dining room at the State Hospital for several years. Between Stacy Petrek and I, I know we drove Lu crazy, but I also know she liked it too. Lu was a great lady. Stacy and I had lunch with Lu last fall. We had a really good visit and am glad we did. RIP Lu and don't eat any fake food in heaven :-) ......Love Laureen

I have great memories from being room mates in high school with Lucy. We had our first jobs together at the courthouse. We loved our years of growing up in Nash.
