He also attended Alfred Elementary school and graduated from Gackle High School in 1963.  He then attended Wahpeton State School of Science for 1 year.  In 1965 he entered the United States Marine Corp.  He was one of the 1st Marines to land in Vietnam.   He was honorably discharged in 1967.

Following the death of his wife June 18, 2014 he has continued to reside in Bismarck.  In the last years of his life he was blessed to have Jan Kville as a special friend and companion.

I was so sorry to hear of Bobbys passing. Alway fun when I would get to see my cousin in North Dakota, "Cousin" was his customary greeting. It was so touching of him to stop in and send kind words when my mom and dad passed away. Thinking of Bobby will always brings a smile to my face but now a touch sadness to my heart.

To Bobbys family...I am so sorry. We were classmates and high school friends. I loved his sly little chuckle. He always made me feel good about myself. My heart goes out to all if you.

For Bob's family. I know you've suffered a loss, and that nothing I can say or do is going to take away your sadness. Because I have lost too many of my own loved ones in the past 10 years, I just want to to pass on what I know is true. I wish for you, that "God will grant you peace and comfort in the precious memories you have of Bob". Those memories, in time, will become your most cherished treasures. I didn't know Bob well, but just a few brief moments during our lives. I remember visiting your farm as a child, with my parents, near Alfred. Bob and I are 2nd cousins. He was so kind and thoughtful to attend both the services of my husband in 2009 and my mother in 2016. It filled my heart with love, just to see him there, and we shared a few moments of quiet companionship. Something I have never forgotten and never will. Thank you Bob.<br>I will not be able to attend Bob's service, health reasons, but know that I am thinking of Bob's family and keeping him and all of you in my prayers. Asking God to keep you in his care. Judith

I was privileged to work him and Burlington Northern Railroad in the B&B Department from 1977 to 1984 as a 1st Class Carpenter. Bob hired me in Glendive, Montana to work in Mandan, N.D. He was my Department Supervisor and I saw him many times on our various bridge jobs. I unfortunately was on the road from Arizona and just saw that he had passed. Unbelievably but I had recently mentioned to my wife that I wanted to contact him this summer while we were back in Bismarck. Rest in Peace my friend.
