Douglas Dean Schlager, 72, of Jamestown, ND passed away Saturday morning, June 6, 2020 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

Doug was born at Trinity Hospital in Jamestown, ND to Albert and Faye (Madson) Schlager. He grew up on the family farm near Robinson, ND until his family moved to Jamestown in 1960. He attended Jamestown Middle and High School, graduating in 1965. Doug served in the National Guard from 1966 through 1971 during the Vietnam War, becoming a Sergeant E-5.

Doug began working at Gun ‘n Reel Sports during High School and became a proud owner of the longstanding Jamestown business. Doug received awards throughout his career from Lund Boats and Honda, with one of Doug’s proudest accomplishments being awarded Honda’s top salesman. He loved the store, having the opportunity to engage with people in Jamestown and the surrounding community.

Doug was active in the community throughout his entire life, serving as president of the Chamber of Commerce, board member of Ducks Unlimited, active in Pheasants Forever, the Elks, Jaycees, Dakota Anglers, and many other organizations benefitting the community.

Doug was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing and camping, and shared that love and passion with many of his family, friends, and of course, his trusted companion Shadow.

Doug is survived by his wife Michelle (Dockter) Schlager; his children Misti (Troy) Beckman, Andover, MN and Chad (Roshni) Schlager, Seattle, WA; his step-children Chad (Amy) Dockter, Otsego, MN, Melissa (Dean) Gilbertson, Jamestown, ND, Chris (Erin) Dockter, Fargo, ND; grandchildren Kayla, Brayden, Kylie, Jacob, Sierra, Cameron, Taydem, Jack and Kase; two sisters Alma (Bob) Lulay and Illa Schaller, Jamestown, ND; a brother Byron (Deb) Schlager, Burnsville, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

To the family of Doug. Memories are what keeps out hearts whole. As every one will remember Doug visiting people at his store, Gun and Reel Sports. Some parties are meant for memories that's if my age group could remember. But<br>we all hung together as a party group believe it or not back in the late great 60's

I worked with Doug for 10 years at Gun & Reel Sports back in the days when there were four employees and the Owners Bob and Jerome. Doug was the Honda Parts man and I was a Marine Mechanic. We worked together on many things through the years. He a became a Salesman and a Owner in later years and we were always friends and the memories are all good.
