Shirley Benson, 83, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Jamestown.
Shirley Thorson was born June 3, 1938 at Langdon, ND the daughter of Arthur and Anna Thorson (Skjerva). She grew up in Hampden graduating from Hampden High School; following high school she worked at the Café in town.
She and Edward Benson were married July 3, 1958 at Hampden, ND, they traveled briefly while Edward worked on elevators, finally making their home in Jamestown. Shirley was initially a stay-at-home mom, but also worked at Randy’s Restaurant and then High Acres Manor until retiring in 1993. She continued to reside in Jamestown.
Shirley loved spending time with her kids and grandkids, being outside, talking short walks and gardening. She also enjoyed coffee with friends and going out to eat. She was a member the American Legion and Trinity Lutheran Church.
Shirley is survived by her 4 children, Kevin (Shelley) Benson; Roger (Kay) Benson; Julie (Tony) Hale; Kyle Benson; all of Jamestown, ND; 7 grandchildren, Eric (Sherry) Benson, Ryan (Brittany Reed) Benson, Arron (Stacy) Benson, Cody Benson, Natasha (Jeremy Willman) Benson, Caitlin (Jeff) Wilen, Allison Michel, and Lauryn (Mav) Carswell; great grandchildren, Cason, Kayden, Blake, Clifford, Peyton, Kamryn, Macie, Jaeger, Jaymeson, Hendrix, Paisley, Ella, Jhett, Brooklyn, Alex; her 3 siblings, Larry (Rachel) Thorson, West Fargo, ND ; Donna (Joe) Collinson, Fargo, ND; Diane (Lynn) Seward, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and special friend Tom Huss.
Funeral Service- 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND with Chaplain Kalen Heller, officiating.
Visitation- 12-7p Monday at the funeral home.
Prayer Service- 7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Interment- Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, ND, in the spring.
