Obituary

Renee Mae Woehl, 64, Kulm, ND, died Sunday, November 6, 2022, north of Edgeley, ND, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Renee was born February 27, 1958, in Ellendale, ND, the daughter of Albert and Marilyn (Holland) Oberlander. At an early age Renee moved with her family to a farm northwest of Kulm, where she helped her dad milk cows and do daily chores, helped her mom in the kitchen, and developed her love for cats. Renee attended school in Kulm, where she was part of the high school cheerleading squad, Pom Pom, tramp & tumbling. Renee graduated from Kulm High School in 1976. Right after high school, Renee attended and graduated from Town & Country Beauty College in Jamestown.

On August 26, 1978, in Kulm, ND, Renee was united in marriage to John Woehl. They moved to Jamestown and were blessed with two children, Travis and Amanda. After spending years living at the ranch, John and Renee moved to Windsor and later to Kulm.

Renee worked several years as a hair stylist at Regis. After leaving Regis, Renee still enjoyed cutting hair for her husband, son, and grandchildren. She went on to work at the North Dakota State Hospital, Alpha Opportunities, Progress, and finally South Central Human Service Center as a Mental Health Technician. Renee was set to retire in December 2022. Renee received a Certificate of Appreciation for her 20 years of service with the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services.

Growing up on the farm and living out of town gave Renee many loves—love of cats, birds, vegetable and flower gardening. Renee never missed an opportunity to show off her cats and kittens and tell stories of all the mischief they got into. She also enjoyed showing off her flowers and plants. Renee always tried to make everyone feel involved, included, and happy. Whether it was remembering favorite or not-so-favorite foods, favorite snacks, or favorite drinks, Renee was always prepared to serve them to you when you visited. She also remembered favorite animals, hobbies, and things and always gave the greatest heartfelt gifts. She was proud of her grandchildren and loved her family very much. Renee was a supportive woman, always there to answer questions and help with recipes, gardening, or animals. She also had a great listening ear and was full of good advice, and was always just a good talk. Reading through her school memories, Renee will always be remembered as a kind soul, good hearted, & a genuine friend who always had a smile on her face- which she carried through to her passing.

Renee is survived by her husband, John, Kulm, ND; two children, Travis (Crystal) Woehl and Amanda (Chris) Combs, all of Jamestown, ND; four grandchildren, Allyson Hohman, Dominic and Tayte Combs, and Kase Woehl; two sisters, Tam (Doug) Johnson, Elk River, MN, and Pat Zehowski, Zimmerman, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation in Renee’s memory to Prairie Paws or James River Humane Society.

Renee’s family would like to thank everyone for the love, support, and expressions of sympathy during our time of loss. We appreciate everything that was done for our family. Renee is greatly missed.
