Robert (Bob) Jeffrey Bussiere, 60, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday June 21, 2023, at home.

Bob was born December 3, 1962 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, the son of Robert Sr. and Eleanor Bussiere. He graduated from Monrovia High School in Monrovia, IN in 1981.

He entered the US Air Force April 23, 1982 where he served as a Special Operations Paratrooper, earning a Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal and Air Force Achievement Medal along with numerous other admirable medals and awards. He Honorably retired on January 1, 2008 at the rank of Sr. Master Sergeant.

He and Candy (Mortenson) Bussiere were married on May 1, 2008 in Jamestown, where they made their home. He continued to work at Goodrich Aerospace until going to work at Jamestown Correction Center as a Correctional Officer until he fully retired in 2015.

Bob’s favorite pastime was bringing laughter to everyone with his sense of humor and spending time with his family, especially his 11 grandchildren. Bob was an avid camper, he enjoyed traveling, barbecuing, playing darts, making model cars, collecting sports cards, and watching football, especially Peyton Manning.

He is survived by his wife, Candy, Jamestown, ND; 2 children, Ryan (Erica) Bussiere and Chad (Katie) Bussiere, both of Spearfish, SD; 3 stepchildren, Carl (Kendal) Abernathey Jr., Stanwood, WA; Chad Abernathey, Arlington, WA; and Andrea (Jeremy) Stokes, Arlington, WA;  4 grandchildren, Ahria, Lucius, Stella, and Claire; 7 step-grandchildren, Hailey, Landon, Rory, Aubrey, Liam, Kohen, and Cayson ; 2 sisters, Julie (George) Sport, Salem, AL, Kathy (Mel) Hacker, Mooresville, IN.; and 2 nephews, Shane and Jason.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

MSgt Robrt Bussiere was the very first 1st Sergeant for the 822 Security Forces Squadron. Although his job at the time was to advise commanders on the readiness, health, morale, welfare, and quality of life of Airmen and families to ensure a mission-ready force, he often went above and beyond those duties and made everyone feel a sense of belonging. As a newly activated unit, we were often challenged with difficult mission requirements, constant changes, and short suspense with every single task we did. Top always communicated the most frustrating and time consuming tasks with a smile, a sense of urgency, and pure motivation which became soothingly addictive to us all. The deployments, laughs, tears, serious, intellectual, and often compassionate conversations will always be remembered. On behalf of the Men and Women of SAFESIDE, we thank you for your service and will continue to cherish your memory. Rest on my friend.

So many memories, how do I pick just one?.The pink slippers? The dropped pizza? Having a fan to put u to sleep.for as long as I can remember? When you were afraid of trees, when you came to me for comfort whenever you were disciplined (which wasn't often, Mr. Baby of the family). The time you scared us to death when you knocked out a 3rd floor window.? My little brother I have lived you so long! It's hard thinking of world without you in it..I hope you've found peace, I hope you don't hurt anymore. Whenever I feel tears coming I will think.of that infectious laugh you had. Then I'll smile. Family of Robert Bussiere, My sincere sympathies in the loss of Bob. Unfortunately I never had the chance to know Bob though I have known Candace and her family since childhood. I have heard such wonderful stories about Bob and what a wonderful person he was. I pray that God will hold you all in his loving arms. He will give you the strength, comfort and peace you need during this most difficult time. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. Love and hugs.

Sad, sad loss. My condolences. Worked with Bob at Moody AFB as an AGE mechanic and then as First Sergeants. I’ll always remember his sense of humor and his dedication to his troops. RIP Bob.
