Russ was born November 5, 1958 in Aberdeen, South Dakota the son of Elton and Erma (Rivinius)Dewald. He grew up in Jamestown and graduated from Jamestown high school in 1977.

Whether it be with his own siblings and parents or Cheryls family, who proudly welcomed Russ as one of their own. He especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren, Kaiya and Fallon, creating memories they will carry with them forever. Some of his happiest moments were spent in the garage, swapping stories, sharing laughs, and enjoying a cold beer with family and friends.
