Violet Batsch

Violet Batsch, 97, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at SMP-Health Ave Maria in Jamestown.

Violet Irene Schlecht was born on September 3, 1928 on the family farm, south of Gackle, ND, daughter of Michael and Elizabeth (Dalke) Schlecht.  She attended the local rural school near Gackle, where she completed her elementary education and grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped her parents on the family farm.

Vi and Edwin Batsch were married December 22, 1946 at the Congregational Church in Fredonia, ND.  They made their home on various farms near Fredonia, Sanborn and Spiritwood.  In 1968 they moved to Jamestown where she worked at the Ann Carlson Center, for 35 years, until her retirement in 2001.  Edwin died in September of 1983.

She was a member of the UCC Congregational Church in Jamestown.  She enjoyed putting puzzles together, playing cards, watching Twins baseball games, yard work and coffee with friends and people she loved.

Vi is survived by her children, Betty Ost; Adeline Grenz; Warren Batsch (Barb Vilhauer), all of Jamestown, ND and Margo (Art) Bender, Shawnne, KS; 6 grandchildren, Anthony Grenz, Kenneth Grenz, Tina (Scott) Seuferling, Joshusa Batsch Herman, and Ryan Herman; 6 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; 2 step-great grandchildren and 1 brother, Elmer (Lois) Schlecht, Gackle, ND; and her pet therapy dog at Ave Maria, Oslo.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and siblings, John, Godhief, Victor, Raymond, Roy, Elizabeth Zimmerman, Esther Fiechtner; and special friend, Eugene Haut.

Funeral Service- 10:30 AM Monday, June 1, 2026 at Haut Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND, with Pastor Tammy Toepke-Floyd, officiating.          

Visitation- 1:00pm- 5:00 Sunday at the funeral home.

Interment- Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND.
