Obituary
Bertha Fischer, 106, Wishek, ND died Sunday evening June 11, 2006 at the Wishek Home for the Aged, Wishek, ND.
Bertha Schmidt was born October 9, 1899, at the family farm 8 miles NW of Gackle, ND, the daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth (Georing) Schmidt. She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education and grew to womanhood in the vicinity.
She and Fred F. Fischer were married December 11, 1919 at the Blumenfeld Country Baptist Church in Stutsman County. They made their home on a farm 2 ½ miles NW of Gackle where they farmed until December of 1943 before moving into Gackle. Following the death of her husband March 27, 1966 she continued to live in Gackle. She entered the Wishek Nursing Home February 18, 1999 and continued to reside there.
She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church , the Baptist Gleaners Society, and also a 72 year member of the Mayer-Morlock Post 250 American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her son, Elroy (Ruth) Fischer, Gackle, ND, 4 grandchildren, June (Ervin) Podoll, Miller, MO, Curtis Fischer Sr., Gackle, ND, Kelly Fischer, Jamestown, ND, Robin (Keith) Moldenhauer, Valley City, ND, 8 great grandchildren, E.J. & Jeannie Podoll, Republic, MO, Julie Podoll, Columbia, MO, Erik Podoll, Miller, MO, Curtis Jr. & Karen Fischer, Driscoll, ND, Christina Fischer, Bismarck, ND, Lee Fischer, Bismarck, ND, Alyssa Moldenhauer, Jamestown, ND, Alex Moldenhauer, Valley City, ND, 5 great-great grandchildren, and 1 sister-in-law, Annette Schmidt, Grand Forks, ND, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 10 brothers and 3 sisters. Bertha was the last survivor of the Phillip & Elizabeth Schmidt family.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday June 15, 2006 in the Grace Baptist Church at Gackle, ND with Pastor Timothy Blackman, officiating.
The interment will be made in the Gackle Cemetery at Gackle, ND.
