Franklin Schardin

Franklin (Frank) J. Schardin, 73, Jud, ND died Sunday morning June 25, 2006 at the Central Dakota Village, in Jamestown, ND.

Frank was born February 3, 1933 on the family farm 2 ½ miles South of Jud, ND, the son of Frank Schardin Sr. and Alice (Malm) Schardin. He received his elementary education in the local school, graduating from the Jud High School in 1951

He and Violet Kinzler were married on October 12, 1958 at Gackle, ND. They made their home on his grandparents homestead were they farmed until 1963. He worked as a Custodian at the Eagles Club in Jamestown, later for the Edgeley School until 1996. In 1979 they started gardening on a large scale and sold produce at the Pamida parking lot. Later joined Jamestown Farmers Market Assoc., being a member for 25 years.
He was truly a nature lover. He loved his garden and devoted all his energy and time into it. His favorite past time was working with horse radish and making dill and water melon pickles. He also was the leader of the Slovenian Polka Band for many years, he entertained in 6 states and parts of Canada. He preformed with America's Polka King, Frank Yankovic. He also had been a TV guest of the Chmieleski Fun Time Show and also on the Big Joe Polka Show. In 1974 he and his band made a record album, Frank Schardin and his Slovenians" He is a past member of the Jamestown Eagles and Elks.

Surviving are his wife Violet, Jud, ND, one brother Alvin (Susie) Shardin, Detroit Lakes, MN, his buddy, Jim Goehner, Jud, ND and a special friend, Sherry Schepp of Fargo, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Pamela Fae in 1962.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday June 29, 2006 at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND with Pastor Bryce Tahran, officiating.
The interment will be made in the Jud Congregational Cemetery at Jud, ND.
Visitation - 9-8 Wednesday at the Funeral home in Jamestown, ND.
