Mr. Harry Astrup, 89, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday morning November 29, 2006 at his home in Jamestown.
Harry Astrup was born January 13, 1917 on the family farm near Fairmount, ND, the son of Hans Astrup and Anna (Bertleson) Astrup. He attended the local rural school near LaMars, ND and attended High School in Fairmount graduating in 1934. He grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm. He entered the United States Marine Corp on June 3, 1942 at Fargo, ND. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was discharged November 7, 1945 at Mare Island, California.
He and Aileen Keumper were married November 18, 1947 at St. Marys Church in Worthington, MN. They made their home in Fairmount where he worked for a short-time at the Farmers Union Oil Company. In January of 1948 he became the Manager of the Farmers Union Oil Co. in Wimbledon until 1969. From 1969 to 1971 he was the Interim Manager at Lisbon, ND. In 1971 they moved to Leeds, ND where he was employed as the Manager of the York Cenex until his retirement in 1982 when they moved to Jamestown, ND. Following their retirement Harry and Aileen enjoyed wood working and being involved with Craft Shows.
He was a member of the Basilica of St. James in Jamestown, ND, Wimbledon School Board having served as President, Wimbledon Fire Dept, having served as Chief and was the Mayor of Wimbledon. He also was a member of the American Legion having served as Commander, V.F.W. and the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife, Aileen, Jamestown, ND, his children, Larry (Jo Marie) Astrup, Fargo, ND, Ken (Linda) Astrup, Jamestown, ND, Carole Kiecker, Brookings, SD, Marie (John) Olson, Mahnomen, MN, John (Chris) Astrup, Colorado Springs, CO, 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and one son-in-law, Dave Kiecker in 1995.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Monday December 4, 2006 in the Basilica of St. James with Father John McGinnis, officiating.
Interment will be made in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND.
KC Rosary 6:30 PM with a Prayer Service to follow at 7:00 PM Sunday at the Funeral Home.
Visitation 9-5 Saturday and 1-9 Sunday at the Funeral Home.

Our sympathy to your family. I loved whenever Harry was in town for the craft show as it was so much fun to see what the "new thing" was in the craft department. One of our favorites was the wooden bird that when you pulled a string the wings "flew". Christopher watched ours fly in his room for years. We shall take comfort in this loss knowing we now have a full family of "Astrup Angels" watching over us.

Our sympathy to your family. We are reminded daily of the fun woodworking projects done by Harry. A delight cow duo graces our door welcoming visitors. The little mailbox stamp dispenser is my favorite. Every time I make beef stew I think about the time I fed it to them 3 days in a row. Remember the good times. We do.

We are so very sorry to hear of the passing of Harry, we know he will be greatly missed by all. So, happy to hear he was able to be living at home, that means so very much to the family. Take care of each other in this trying time.

I'm sad to hear that Uncle Harry has passed on, but at least he's not in pain anymore. I know he's waiting for the joyful reunion with his wife, my Aunt Aileen. I'm selfish in wanting that to be awhile, since I love her, too. I remember all the wood lawn ornaments that Uncle harry would cut out of wood and Aunt Aileen would paint. He'll be missed, but then, we know where he is. Heaven is not really that far away.
