Fred Schulz Jr., 91, Streeter, ND died Wednesday May 2, 2007 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, ND, surrounded by his family.

Fred was born August 9, 1915 at the family farm home in Logan County south of Streeter, ND, the son of Fred Schulz Sr. and Beata (Bitterman) Schulz. He attended the local rural school where he graduated from 8th grade and grew to manhood in the vicinity.

He entered the United States Army March 31, 1942 at Fort Snelling, MN, and served in the European Theater in the 357th Infantry Regiment - 90th Division-Company E, and was part of the invasion in France at Normandy Beach in 1944. During the Battles of Europe, he received the Bronze Star for Valor of Bravery and also the Purple Heart. He was discharged at Camp McCoy, WI, November 30, 1945 with the rank of Staff Sergeant Schulz.

He and CinChona (Connie) Reich were married September 19, 1947 at Streeter, ND. They made their home on a farm 5 miles west of Streeter and moved into Streeter in 1983 where they have continued to reside.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, in Streeter, ND where he served as a trustee, a youth director, an usher and was on the building committee. He was a Charter Member of the American Legion, having served as post commander and Sgt. at Arms. He also served on the School Board, Township Board, Elevator Board and as a Bill Clerk in the Legislature for 3 sessions.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Streeter, ND 4 children, Cynthia (George) Cromwell, Kensal, ND; Joleen Brenneise, Fargo, ND;Rick (Joannie) Schulz, Streeter, ND; Wayne (Kaye) Schulz, Streeter, ND; 5 grandchildren, Melanie Dewald, Denver, CO; Missy Brenneise, Fargo, ND; Joni Cromwell, serving in Korea; Jonathan Schulz, Streeter, ND; Michael Schulz, Streeter, ND; 3 step grandchildren, Talia (Neil) Wittmier, Lincoln, ND; Nora Sperle, Bismarck, ND; Saundra Sperle, Bismarck, ND; 2 step great grandchildren, Jayden Sperle, Lincoln, ND; Erica Wittmier, Lincoln, ND; 2
brothers, Arlo Schulz, Portland, OR; Norman Schulz, Portland, OR; 1 sister, Darlene Melhoff, LaCrosse, WI; 1 step brother, Harry Wolff, Streeter, ND and 1 step sister, Viola Kaufmann, Portland, OR.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother, 1 son, Perry; 1 daughter, LaVonne; 1 sister Freida; 1 brother Eddie and 1 step brother Rueben.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday May 5, 2007 at the United Methodist Church at Streeter, ND, with Rev. Darwin Kopfmann, officiating.

The interment will be made in the Streeter Cemetery at Streeter, ND.

The funeral arrangements are with the Haut Funeral Homes in Gackle, ND.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Fred was a good man and will be sorely missed. I've known him as long as I can remember and I'll always appreciate the fact that he always took the time to talk with me whenever he saw me and asked how my family and I were doing. We'll miss him.

'A life is never ended until all the lives it has touched have ended too,' this Chinese proverb speaks to us of Freddie. Freddie was an institution in Streeter; one we felt would always be around. Freddie never forgot a kindness. It's hard to think of Memorial Day, the Buffalo Supper and many other Streeter 'events'. without Freddie. He will be missed.

We were so sorry to hear of the death of your husband/dad, Fred. We have such good memories of the time we spent together in 4-H. We always went to the fair together, and Fred drove us to the winter show a few times and the summer tour looking at the projects. And of course we always saw each other at Salt Lake on Sundays in the summer!! Our thoughts are with you during this time. Your Husband/Dad will always be remembered fondly by us. My Mom and I wanted to express our sympathy to your family on the loss of Fred. We have such good memories of the time we spent together while in 4-H. We always had such a good time at the fair, and on our yearly 4-H tour. And I remember Fred even bravely volunteered to drive us to the Winter Show a few times!!!
