Hazel Kleven, 87, Medina, North Dakota died Thursday afternoon June 14, 2007 at the Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center in Jamestown, ND.

Hazel Robinson was born November 10, 1919 at Crystal Springs, ND the daughter of John Robinson and Mary (Unce) Robinson. She received her elementary education in the local rural school and graduated from Medina High School in 1936.

She and Clarence Kleven were married November 25, 1939 at Windsor, ND. They made their home on the former Day Farm where they farmed until 1979 when they retired and moved into Medina. Following the death of her husband November 17, 2006 she continued to reside in Medina until May of 2007 she entered the Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the St. Mary's Altar Society in Medina. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and spending time in her kitchen and especially enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, James (Eloise) Kleven, John (Judy) Kleven, Tom (Connie) Kleven, all of Medina, ND, Janice (Duane) Mack, Pettibone, ND, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Ardella Dockter, Jamestown, ND. Her special care givers, Dorothy Moser, Alice Opp, Julie Opp, Bonnie Hofmann, Ardis Hochhalter,Emma Kramlich and Sally Guthmiller.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Monday June 18, 2007 in the St. Mathias Catholic Church in Windsor, ND with Father Jerome Hunkler, officiating.

The interment will be made in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Medina, ND.

Visitation 1-9 Sunday at the funeral home
Prayer Service - 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home

I'm sorry for the loss of Hazel. She and Clarence were good friends to my parents, Reinhold and Leona Trautmann. I remember fondly their visits and card games. Sorry I was out of town and missed the prayer service.

Dear Johnny, Jimmy, Janice and Tommy: I started to write a message but it disappeared because I have a new computer and am getting used to the new keyboard. I am sorry if this duplicates what I wrote: I loved your mother's hearty spirit and laugh. I treasure the memories of staying with you on my visits to North Dakota. She always made me feel welcome on every trip. I will never forget how Johnny and I had the bright idea of having her fix frog legs for us. If the French like them we might too! She was ok with that. We caught a couple of frogs but we made a mess of them and their legs and, thank God, they were not fit for her frying pan. I have so many great memories because of her big heart and her wonderful family. Truly my life is enriched with wonderful experiences and memories because of her and because of all of you.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. She was a great mom. I have many great memories of her, and can still hear her laughing. You could never mistake her laugh. Thinking back, out of all those summers I spent with them, I don't recall ever seeing her get mad. Her and Clarence had a great relationship, and I will never forget them. They had a huge influence on my life. Its to bad not everyone could have had parents like yours.

So sorry to hear that Hazel has passed away. We used to play together when we were kids. She was my cousin and I spent many happy days at their farm.
