Ervin Becker, 90, Jamestown, ND passed away after a short illness on December 15, 2007 in the presence of his loving family at MedCenter One in Bismarck, ND.

Ervin was born on August 24, 1917 to August H. and Emma (Kogler) Becker on the family farm in Logan County east of Napoleon, ND. He grew to manhood farming with his parents and working the beet fields in Montana.

He entered the United States Army May 5, 1942. He served in Africa, Sicily, and Italy during World War II. He was honorably discharged in November 9, 1945 with the rank of Tech Sergeant after being awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his service.

On December 6, 1945 he married "his best girl" Lenora Zimmerman, in Streeter, ND. He and Lenora worked the family farm south of Streeter until retiring to Jamestown, ND and Mesa, AZ. He will be remembered for being a caring, loving, and fun person who treated people with respect and honesty.

He served as Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and deacon at the Streeter Baptist Church for many years. He is currently a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Jamestown. He enjoyed all sorts of sporting events, reading every Louis L'Amour novel ever printed, playing golf, and especially playing cards and games with his grandchildren who sometimes let him win.

Ervin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lenora; 4 children: Richard (Pricilla) Becker, Bismarck, ND; Donna (Gary) Kluthe, Rapid City, SD; Dave (Arnell) Becker, Pelican Rapids, MN; and Dennis (Holly) Becker, Center, ND; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: 1 in infancy, Raymond and Clinton Becker, and 2 sisters: Hilda Jensen and Esther Norling.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday December 19, 2007 at the Temple Baptist Church in Jamestown, ND, with Pastor Randy Jaspers, officiating.

The interment will be made in the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery at Mandan, ND.

Visitation - 9:00 A.M. - 9:00 P.M. Tuesday @ the funeral home

Dear Friends, I check the Jamestown Sun online often and was so shocked to see your fathers name there this morning. My parents always considered Erwin and Lenora one of their best neighbors and how we all enjoyed visiting at your parents home. Of course there were all the years we went to school together and played baseball at recess almost to the kill. It seemed hard to believe he was 90, My heart goes out to all of you, give your mom a hug, we all loved you lots, even though we didn't get to see each other after we left Ketterling #1. It is the passing of another great great era there in Streeter. Marlene

This world has truly lost a gentle man! I remember so well, from my sleepovers with my "best friend Donna", the busy household Lenora and Ervin had, but Ervin always seemed to handle with grace his very active young boys! From gentlman farmer to retiree he was a man who enjoyed his family and in later years his many rounds of golf in sunny Arizona. We were shocked and saddened to hear of Irvin's death. Irvin was my Sunday School teacher many years ago. How well I remember the beads of sweat on his forehead as he was teaching, he always felt he was not qualified. If only he knew what an impact that humility had on me. It spoke volumes about his character. The adjectives that come to mind; humble, witty, vibrant. And as Rickie said at their 50th wedding anniversary, 'Dad taught us how to love and treat women' That was always so obvious in Irvin and Lenora's life.Irvin was a spiritual giant. A Chinese proverb says it well: 'A life is never ended until all the lives it has touched have ended too.'

We are so sorry to here about the loss of Mr.Becker. He was my Aunt Donna's father. What a lucky man to live 90 wonderful years and raise such a wonderful family.He will be greatly missed.God bless
