Troy Evan Bentz, 43, Jamestown, ND died Friday July 11, 2008 at Hastings, MN.

Troy Bentz was born April 30, 1965 in Jamestown, ND, the son of Elmo Bentz and Ardina (Mayer) Bentz. The family lived in Gackle and Troy attended Gackle Public School until the family moved to Jamestown in 1976. He then attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1984. He lived in Arizona and worked for Sandvik Construction until he moved back to North Dakota. He was employed as a cook in several restaurants including Minerva's and Kary's in Bismarck and the Depot and Perkin's in Jamestown.

Troy was a very talented cook and especially enjoyed creating new recipes, particularly soups. He enjoyed watching "Survivor", "Big Brother" and NASCAR.

His nieces and nephews were very special to him.

Troy is survived by his parents Elmo and Ardina Bentz; 3 sisters, Angie (Neil) Widmer; Peggy (Bryan) Widmer; Lila (Brian) Baker; grandfather, Paul Mayer, all of Jamestown, ND; his uncle Rueben Mayer, Bottineau, ND; nieces and nephews, LaDena (Jayme) Ova, Pingree, ND; Jeff (Kali Glodrey)Widmer, Jamestown, ND; Heather Baker; Shawn Baker; Nicole Widmer; Paul Widmer, all of Jamestown, ND and great nieces and nephews Sydney, Carson and Chase Ova, of Pingree, ND.

He was preceded in death by his Grandparents Peter and Lydia Bentz, Bertha Mayer and 2 uncles, Wallace Mayer and Melvin Bentz.

The memorial service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday July 19, 2008 at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown with Pastor Darrel Schulz, officiating.

The last time I saw Troy was several years ago in Medina and he was talking to me about his soups and his cooking. I was saddened to learn of his passing.
