Obituary
Harvey N. Erbele, 83, Lehr, ND, died Monday afternoon December 22, 2008 at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND.
Harvey was born August 15, 1925 at the family farm home 14 miles north of Lehr, ND, the son of Andrew Erbele and Martha (Reich) Erbele. He attended the local rural school where he received his elementary education and grew to manhood in the vicinity.
He entered the United States Marine Corp September 26, 1946. He served at Guam in the South Pacific. He was discharged September 2, 1948 with the rank of Corporal. He returned home to farm with his brother Elmer.
He and Darlene Mayer were married June 20, 1952 at Lehr. They bought their own farm 11 miles north of Lehr where they farmed until 1978 when they moved into Lehr. He continued to farm until retiring in 1993, but continued to stay busy.
He was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church, served on the church finance board, served as a field representative for the FSA for 32 years, the school board, the V.F. W., the American Legion, the Lehr Economic Development, the NDSU Carrington Research Board, served as alderman for the Lehr City Council and also the Lehr Wildlife Club.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene, Lehr, ND, 1 son, Brian Erbele, Joliette, IL, 1 daughter, Vicky (Kevin) Grothmann, Hillsboro, ND, 2 grandchildren, Andrew and Zachary Grothmann, both of Hillsboro, ND, 2 sisters, Mildred Kautz, Wishek, ND, Delores (Russell) Fiechtner, Lehr, ND, 1 brother, Elmer (Emilie) Erbele, Lehr, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday December 27, 2008 at the Zion United Methodist Church in Lehr, ND, with Pastor Marty Toepke-Floyd, officiating.
The burial will be made in the Lehr Cemetery at Lehr, ND.
