Donald Leo Petersen, 51, Jamestown, ND died Friday night March 20, 2009 at the Ave Marie Village at Jamestown, ND.

Donald was born July 18, 1957 at Fargo, ND, the son of Gilbert Petersen and Katherine (Theisen) Petersen. He attended school in Jamestown and later received his G.E.D. at Williston, ND. He worked at the North Dakota State Hospital at a custodian. He went to work at the United Church of Christ in Jamestown, working as a custodian there. In January of 2009 he entered the Ave Marie Village in Jamestown

He is survived by 3 sons, Jeremy Petersen, Iowa, Jason Petersen and Jerome Petersen, Wild Rose, ND, 1 step son, Travis Ova, Colorado, 5 grandchildren, his mother Katherine Petersen, Jamestown, ND, 1 brother, Phred (L.E. Ohman) Petersen, McCloud Victoria, Australia, 1 sister, Connie (Kent) Lettenmaier, Sanborn, ND, and special friend, Alvina Hollingsworth, Eldridge, ND.

He was preceded in death by his father.

The memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday March 28, 2009 at the Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND.

Jason and Jerome, I am so sorry for your loss. This is a very difficult time for you and all I can tell you is to hang on to the memories and tuck them into your heart. They will help during the the tough days. Your dad loved you boys and so now you both need to become the men he would want you to be. We are all there for you and I am only a phone call away. Donnie was one of my childhood friends, someone with whom I shared many a happy day with. We enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hiking, whether in Jamestown, Spiritwood Lake, or out with the Boy Scouts. Donnie saved my life by being alert to our surroundings and taking quick, and the correct, action.
