Karl Gumke, 95, Gackle, ND died early Thursday morning April 30, 2009 at the Mandan Care Center in Mandan, ND.
Karl Gumke was born October 23, 1913 at Gackle, ND, the son of John M. Gumke and Carolina (Knodel) Gumke. He received his elementary education at the local rural school and grew to manhood in the vicinity as he helped on the family farm.
He and Alice Koenig were married May 10, 1938 at LaMoure, ND. They made their home on a farm 11 miles southeast of Gackle where they farmed. In 1982 they moved into Gackle for their retirement. After the death of his wife in 2005 he continued to live in Gackle. In 2009 he entered the Mandan Care Center
He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, ND. He was also the Gutschmidt Township Treasurer for 33 years.
He is survived by 1 daughter, Ruby Unrath, Bismarck, ND; 1 son, Robert (Nancy) Gumke, Cleveland, OH; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alice, 1 daughter and 2 sisters.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday May 2, 2009 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, ND with Rev. Russ Pollock, officiating.
The interment will be at the Gackle Cemetery in Gackle, ND.
