Anna Symoniak, 97, Lehr, ND died early Friday morning June 5, 2009 at the Wishek Home for the Aged in Wishek, ND.

Ann Ziegenhagel was born May 25, 1912 at the family farm home NW of Lehr, ND, the daughter of Ferdinand Ziegenhagel and Christina (Sifferman) Ziegenhagel. She attended school near Lehr and received her elementary education. She moved to Baudette, MN where she worked as a hotel maid.

She and Albert Symoniak were married October 5, 1937 at Virginia, MN. They made their home on a farm near International Falls, MN. Following the death of her husband December 13, 1968 she continued to reside on the farm. In 1981 she moved to Lehr and in March of 2009 she entered the Wishek Home for the Aged.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Chruch in Lehr.

She is survived by her sister, Emma Wolvert, Gackle, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 son, Edward, and 2 brothers.

The funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday June 9, 2009 at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Wishek, ND, with Rev. Tom Puffe, officiating.

The burial will be made in the Riverview Cemetery at Reedy, MN.

Visitation - 9:00 A.M. - 10:30 A.M. Tuesday @ the funeral home

Anna was one of the sweetest ladies I ever had the privilege to visit with. She was such a giving, loving, caring lady, and although it's been awhile since I've seen her, I've never forgotten her graciousness. She will be missed. It's our loss and Heaven's gain. My condolences to her sister, Emma. May God grant you comfort and peace.

Anna what an inspiration she was for me. She is related to my husband, Bernhard (Barney) Kauk and we always stopped to see her when we were in ND. She had such a delightful spirit and we never left the house without a gift and a cheerful demeanor. We remember her devotion to her brother and the long years of care involved with him. She certainly will live in our memory, the world needs more "Annas." We always saw her garden and were amazed at her abilities to grow one and do needlework well into her nineties. Barney is still wearing the knitted slippers she gave him on our last visit. Barney & Marlyn Kauk

My parents were neighbors of hers in Lehr and they just loved her and I got to know her through them, she was the most loving and amazing woman, she had this lovely huge garden of which she was so proud and rightfully so. I was blessed to have known her.
