Robert F. Kauphusman, 85, Jamestown, ND died Thursday July 30, 2009 at Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, ND.
Bob Kauphusman was born April 12, 1924 at Winona, MN, the son of Roman Kauphusman and Gertrude (Martin) Kauphusman. He received his education at St. Thomas Grade School in Winona, and graduated from Winona Cotter High School. He worked as a clerk at a Wholesale Grocery in Winona from 1941-1942 and as a laborer for Ryan Schulz Construction in Baraboo, WI from 1942-1943.
He entered the US Army at Ft. Riley, KS in May of 1943 and had his Cavalry training with the Western Defense Command in Santa Rosa, CA 107th Cavalry Recon, and served in Europe from 1944 to 1946 with his same unit. He was discharged April of 1946 at Camp McCoy, WI with the rank of Technical Sergeant.
He and Loraine A. Thielges were married August 30, 1948 in the St. James Catholic Church at Jamestown, ND. They made their home in Jamestown, entered Jamestown College and graduated in 1949. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service from January 1949 to September 1951. In September of 1951 he went to work at the Livestock Credit Company and also owned and operated Takota Tax Services to the present date.
He was a member of the Basilica of St. James, served on the Jamestown School Board for 10 years, 1 year as president, the Stutsman County Fair Board for 20 years as Secretary Treasurer, the Jamestown Hospital Board for 10 years and served as the first President of the Jamestown Hospital Foundation, the Jamestown Knights of Columbus #1883, served as Grand Knight and District Deputy, the Jamestown Elks Lodge #995, served as Exalted Ruler, District Deputy, North Dakota Elks Association Treasurer, served 5 years on the Grand Lodge Ritualistic Committee, 1 year as chairman. He was also one of the founders of the Stutsman County State Bank in March of 1965.
He is survived by his wife Loraine, Jamestown, ND; 6 children, Jay (Cathy) Kauphusman, Overland Park, KS; Dr. James (Barbara) Kauphusman, LaCrosse, WI; Jan (Richard) Pogue, Minneapolis, MN; Jerilyn (Gregg) Greeno, St. Michael, MN; Juli (Dennis) Reisnour, Grand Forks, ND; Joan Kauphusman, Jamestown, ND; 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 4 brothers and 5 sisters, Mary Drake, Stevens Point, WI; Louan Haun, Winona, MN; Margaret Cieminski, Oklahoma City, OK; Rita Eckstrom, Dunkirk, NY; Barbara (John) Weinberger, Winona, MN; John (Mary) Kauphusman, Rochester, MN; Richard (Patricia) Kauphusman, Chippewa Falls, MN; Frederick (Kathy) Kauphusman, Falcon Heights, MN; James (Nancy) Kauphusman, Winona, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 1 sister.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday August 8, 2009 in the Basilica of St. James in Jamestown, ND with Father Al Bitz, pastor officiating.
