Maxine Lang, 85, Jamestown, ND died Tuesday afternoon April 13, 2010 at the Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND.

Maxine Kom was born May 15, 1924 at Bentley, ND, on the family farm, the daughter of Paul Kom and Pauline (Magstadt) Kom. In 1936 she moved with her family to Oregon. She received her elementary education in the Gilbert Creek Church School. She completed her education graduating from the Laurelwood Academy in Gaston, Oregon in 1942. She then attended Walla Walla College in College Place, Washington from 1942-1945. She enrolled in Nursing Education at Portland Oregon Adventist Hospital in 1945 graduating with a Registered Nurse Degree in 1947. She worked as a RN in Portland, Oregon.

She and Elroy Lang were married June 18, 1950 at Willamina, Oregon. They returned to the Gackle area where she worked at the Gackle Hospital as a Nursing Supervisor from 1953 to 1957. She then worked at the LaMoure Health Center as a Nursing Supervisor until 1967. From 1968 to 1974 she worked as a RN at the Harvey Hospital. In 1975 she was employed at the Jamestown Hospital as a RN until 1986. She and Elroy retired in Jamestown where they have resided.

She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jamestown, ND. She was very active in church affairs having filled positions in many departments, recently in the Community Service Dept. She also taught Sabbath School Classes at church for many years. Maxine enjoyed flowers, walking, cooking, reading the Bible and sharing scripture promises. She also enjoyed trips to Oregon to see her sister and family.

She is survived by her husband Elroy, Jamestown, ND, her sister Lucille (Robert) Johnstone, Willamina, OR and many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM Friday April 16, 2010 in the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jamestown, ND with Pastor Darren Purdy, officiating.

Interment will be made in the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND.
Visitation 10-8 Thursday at the Funeral Home
Prayer Service 7:00 PM Thursday at the Funeral Home

Dear Mr. Lang, So sorry to hear about the loss of your lovely wife, Maxine. I met her through working at the hospital in LaMoure as part of my high school "on the job training" and she was a very nice lady. I was in your math classes at LHS. It was so good to see both of you at the lamoure 125th anniversary celebration and my high school reunion out at Marilyn Dean's farm. I am thinking of you at this time of loss. Dottie Heit

My prayers and sympathy for you Elroy on the passing of Maxine. I will miss her cheerful smile and greetings each time we visited and I will always appreciate what you both meant to me. You were an inspiration to me when I greatly needed one, and a friend. I will miss her much. God bless you, Elroy, and be with you.

Mr, Lang, Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy. I just learned of your wife's passing from my sister, Sharon, who lives in Mesa and I wanted to add my condolences to those I know you've already received. While I didn't know Mrs. Lang all that well, I still have very fond memories of days spent in your math classes as a "rose" among the "thorns"

Mr. Lang, I'm so sorry to read about Mrs. Lang's passing. I didn't know her, but she must have been the rock behind the great teacher you were to all of us at LaMoure High School.
