LeRoy Oelke, 81, Fredonia, ND died Wednesday September 14, 2011 at the Edgewood Vista in Fargo, ND.

LeRoy Oelke was born October 7, 1929 at Fredonia, ND, the son of Fred Oelke and Lydia (Scherbenske) Oelke. He attended the Fredonia Public School and Graduated from Kulm High School in 1948.

He and Jeanette Nitschke were married October 24, 1954 at Fredonia, ND. They made their home on the Oelke homestead 2 ½ miles NW of Fredonia where they farmed. Following the death of his wife, March 14, 2008, he continued to reside in Fredonia. In 2010 he entered the Edgewood Vista in Fargo.

He was a member of the Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Fredonia. He also served as supervisor at Haag Township and as treasurer of the North Side Telephone Company.

He is survived by his 2 children, Rhonda (Terry) King, Fargo, ND; Bruce Oelke, Fredonia, ND; 3 grandchildren, Christopher King, Devils Lake, ND; Joshua King, Fargo, ND; Allison King, Fargo, ND, and 1 sister, Delores (Lawrence) Koenig, Fargo, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday September 24, 2011 at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Fredonia, ND with Rev. Mike Montgomery, officiating.

Dear family of Leroy, We were so sad to hear of Leroy's departing. I know he was in poor health and it was a heavy burden for him to carry. He was a good man and my mother and I loved him dearly. We will all miss him.. his humor..his wit.. and his good heart for putting up with my mom which isn't easy. God bless you and God bless Leroy, Love, Margo

Rhonda, Bruce and family. My thoughts are with you and I am so appreciative of the opportunity to visit with LeRoy this summer. Many memories of growing up just down the crossroads from LeRoy & Jeanette, Rhonda and Bruce, Sunday night company and watching the moms and dads play cards.
