Dave was one of the first to welcome me to the community. He was an excellent ambassador for Rotary, Jamestown, for ND, for the USA, for everyone. His leadership, talent, knowledge, wit and excellence will be sorely missed.

Dr. Smette will be dearly missed by many in this community and the many other teachers, staff, students, parents, and just plain old people he met along the way. He was of a different generation but was very active on Facebook. My sincerest condolences to all he made an impact on. God will make a way.

Dave was such a remarkable human. He loved to educate young minds & assist them in gaining experience in their life endeavors. His kindness will forever be imprinted in our hearts &:his keen sense of humor that was met with a sly wink to whomever he was bantering with to let us know, he was serious but also had a generous sense of humor.
May his memory carry us through the moments where we miss him the most❤️

Although a distant cousin, I finally had the pleasure of meeting David when he visited Alaska, a few years ago. He had so many wonderful stories to share, and had a deep knowledge of the Smette ancestry. Clint took Sharon and David halibut fishing out of Seward, and David was so gracious. He reminded me several times, what a fantastic time he had fishing. I admired his adventuresome spirit, his community loyalty, and he had the best smile! Deepest sympathy to David’s family and loved ones.

Dr. Smette will be deeply missed by this community. He was authentic, with a genuine smile and warm heart. He was committed to every task at hand 100%. I was fortunate enough to spend time with Dr. Smette as a science teacher, a member of the Choralaires, and as a pancake flipper at Atonement church during our pancake feeds. Heaven received a wonderful soul in Dr. David Smette. Keep singing with the Choir of Angels.
