Mark Heflin, 30, Gackle, ND died Tuesday evening November 29, 2011 at the Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident.

Mark Heflin was born, February 21, 1981 at Holy Cross Hospital in Maryland, the son of Shari (Reid) Schlecht and Mark Heflin Sr. He graduated from Gackle-Streeter High School in 1999. He entered into the North Dakota National Guard in February 2002. He deployed to Afghanistan with the Maryland National Guard in 2004 and deployed to Iraq with the 191st MP Co North Dakota National Guard in 2008. Mark was in partnership with his brother Andrew with Jayhawk Construction out of Gackle, ND.

Mark and Tiffany Schmalz were married on January 2, 2008 at Bismarck, ND they made their home in Lincoln, ND before moving to Gackle, ND.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Streeter, ND.

He is survived by his wife Tiffany, Gackle, ND; two daughters Kaitlyn, Edgleley, ND and Skylar Tidd, North Beach, MD; two sons Bryson, Edgeley, ND and Treydan, Gackle, ND; his parents Shari Schlecht, Gackle, ND and Mark Heflin Sr, Maryland; Maternal grandparent Billie Jean Heeley, MD; Paternal grandparents Lawson and Glenda, FL; Step grandparents Arnold and Annetta Schlecht, Gackle, ND; two brothers Andrew (Lindi), Gackle, ND and Anthony Schlecht, Bismarck, ND; two sisters Heather (David) Cole, Stafford, VA and Carina (Barret) Wittmier, Bismarck, ND; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his step father Steven Schlecht.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday December 3, 2011 at the Streeter Memorial Hall in Streeter, ND with Rev. Elmo Herman, officiating.

Interment will be made in the Streeter City Cemetery at Streeter, ND.

Arrangements are with the Haut Funeral Homes in Gackle, ND.

Visitation - 3:00 - 5:00 PM Friday @ the funeral home in Gackle AND 6:00 - 8:00 PM Friday @ the church in Streeter

Prayer Service - 7:00 PM Friday @ the United Methodist Church in Streeter, ND

Mark was a special person who always had a ready smile for you when he saw you. He also was not afraid to give me a hug, which I really appreciated. I have admired and loved Mark since the first time I met him. He will be greatly missed in my life. God bless each of you as you remember Mark in your own special way.

My heart is broken, I am so sorry for your loss. Mark Sr. is my god-son and Glenda Heflin is my sister. I know that at a time like this there is nothing that I can say or do to ease your grief.
