Obituary

Harley J. Diede, 77 of Spicer, formerly of Jamestown, ND, died Saturday, August 24, 2013 at his home in Spicer. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the Haut Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND. Burial will be in the Alfred Cemetery in Alfred, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Harley James Diede was born on October 11, 1935 in Lehr, ND, the son of Adam and Barbara (Werth) Diede. He grew up in Lehr where he attended high school and worked at the Grenz General Store. As a young man he moved to Jamestown where he began work at the state hospital. He later completed the highway patrol academy and entered the National Guard reserves where he served in the Air force recovery squadron. He worked for Jamestown Police Dept for 16 years before he began work as truck driver for Dakota Bake and Serv. In 1977, he started his own trucking business. On May 17, 1980, Harley was united in marriage to the love of his life, Doris Schlenker in Aberdeen, SD. They made their home in Jamestown until they moved to Fridley, MN in 1992, Fort Worth, TX in 1995, and Spicer, MN in 2007.

Harley enjoyed fishing, golfing, boating and took great pride in a manicured lawn. He was a member of Drum and Bugle Core in Jamestown and Church of God 7th Day in Alfred, ND.

Harley is survived by his wife of 33 years, Doris; children, Debora (Heath) Groshong of Jamestown, ND and Rick (Kimberly) Diede of Harwood, ND; step-children, Keith (Barbara) Suko of Minot, ND and Candace (Brian) Kemmet of Spicer; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Diana (Kenneth) Schultz; brother, Ira (Cindy) Diede; and sister-in-law, Shirley Diede.

Harley was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carlos and Walter.

Wow Faith! Its great to hear from you .I miss you too .I am so glad that you are still teaching .its wouderfnl that you are still changing lives as always .Some days I wish I was in PEI too but I feel very blessed because I actually have more security here. I am teaching again and feeling blessed to have Andrea Smith as my boss and I am part of lovely faith communities! Thank you for all of the support you gave me to try to make things work in PEI.
