Obituary

Verna Nienow, 81, Gackle, ND died Monday March 17, 2014 at the Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor in Jamestown, ND.

Verna Bonnet was born June 10, 1932 west of Streeter, ND, the daughter of Edward Bonnet and Katie (Kirschenmann) Bonnet. She received her education at the Streeter School and grew to womanhood in the vicinity.

She and Jack Nienow were married November 4, 1954 at Streeter, ND. They made their home on the farm NW of Streeter where they owned and operated a stock and dairy farm. In 1980 they were awarded the Merit for F.H.A. Family of the Year in Kidder County. In 2001 they sold their farm to their son and moved into Gackle, ND.

She was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Streeter. She was also a member of the WELCA and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, and was a champion kuchen maker.

She is survived by her husband, Jack, Gackle, ND; 2 sons, Dan (Ruth) Nienow, San Francisco, CA; Thomas (Lisa Haadem) Nienow, Streeter, ND; 4 grandchildren, Daniel (Melynda) Nienow, Bridgit (Nathan) Shaw, Justin and Kip (fiancé-Kristina McCommick) Haadem; 2 great grandchildren, Zoe Nienow and Tyler Shaw; 2 brothers, Garry (Maggie) Bonnet, Streeter; Jim (Karen) Bonnet, Bismarck, ND; 2 sisters, Betty (William) Snippes, Apple Valley, MN and Alice (Ken) Spitzer, Jamestown, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Steven, and 1 granddaughter, DeAnna Nienow.

Funeral Service - 10:30 AM Saturday March 22, 2014 at the St. Luke Church in Streeter, ND with Pastor Ryan Ferwerda, officiating

Interment - Streeter Lutheran Cemetery in Streeter, ND

Visitation – Friday 4:00 – 7:00 PM @ the funeral home in Gackle

Prayer Service – Friday 7:00 PM @ the funeral home in Gackle

Jack & Family, We wish to express our condolences to you and your family on the loss of dear Verna. She was a wonderful lady, so kind and giving. It is hard to let go but she is in a better place with no pain and with family and friends. You are in our prayers and may God give you strength and support in the days ahead.

My sympathies are with the family of Verna. It is not easy to lose someone we love in death. Jesus said in John 5:28 "the hour is coming in which all those in the graves will hear my voice and come out."
