Tommy Wegner, 83, Alfred, ND died Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at SMP Health- Ave Maria in Jamestown.
Thomas C. Wegner was born April 24, 1942, the son of Christ and Alma (Krause) Wegner. He attended the country school in Alexander Township and graduated from Gackle High School in 1960. He went on to the Wahpeton State School of Science, where he received his training in mechanics.
He and Jolyne Walker were married March 18, 1966, at the Courtenay Presbyterian Church. They made their home one-mile northeast of the farm Tommy grew up on; they farmed together for 60 years. In May of 1976 his parents retired and moved to Gackle and the two of them moved to the family farm. They had two children, a son Todd Craig in 1970 and a daughter Christi Jo in 1973. Tommy retired from farming in 2025. His daughter, son-in-law, Troy, granddaughter Maranda Jo and her husband, Ryan continue to operate the farm he so loved.
Tommy loved his children, grandchildren, and the farm. The only hobby he had was working. He taught the value of hard work and always said, “If you're going to do something, do it right or don’t do it at all” (the right way usually being his way).
He loved his Quad tractor, doing dirt-work, hauling gravel, and in his later years making bales. Tommy could always be found in his shop, he said that is where he belonged. His best friend was his beagle dog, Sammy. Together they put on countless miles in his Ranger supervising out field work and checking on the neighborhood. The farm seems very empty now, we are all going to miss seeing his Ranger parked on the approach of the field, watching over us. We love you Dad, and it’s okay to rest.
Tommy is survived by his daughter, Christi (Troy) Nelson, Alfred, ND; 3 grandchildren, Janessa Marie (Samuel), Fargo, ND, Maranda Jo (Ryan), Alfred, ND, and Devin Thomas, Fargo, ND; 1 great granddaughter, Blair Ryan; 1 brother, Tim (Colleen) Wegner, Minneapolis, MN; and 1 sister, Jean Johnson, Jamestown; and his beloved dog, Sammy
He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Todd in 2010; parents; and brother-in-law, Hans Johnson.
