Roy Schlecht, Jamestown, ND died Sunday evening August 18, 2013 at the Wishek Living Center in Wishek, ND.
Roy Schlecht was born at Gackle, ND, the son of Michael Schlecht and Elizabeth (Dalke) Schlecht. He received his elementary education in the local rural school and grew to manhood in the vicinity where he helped on the family farm.
He entered the United State Army July 24, 1952 at Fargo, ND. He served in Japan, also the 1st CAV Division Combat 8th engineer stationed in Hokkaido Japan during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged July 24, 1954 at Ft. Ord, CA with the rank of Corporal.
He and Betty (Rithmiller) were married January 11, 1971at LaMoure and made their home in Kulm, ND where he worked for the Soo Line Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1990. They moved to Jamestown in 1996.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 14 and also V.F. W. Post 760. . He loved seeing his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, singing and playing guitar and making tapes, and he also collected caps. One of Roy's favorite sounds was the sound of a train.
Surviving are his wife Betty, Jamestown, ND; 2 daughters, Julie (Dan) Brandner, Wishek, ND; Amy (Dustin) Carlson, Edgeley, ND; 2 sons, Thomas Schlecht, Jamestown, ND; Morgan (Valerie) Schlecht, Watertown, SD; 8 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Esther Fiechtner, Wishek, ND, Violet Batsch, Jamestown, ND; 1 brother, Elmer (Lois) Schlecht, Gackle, ND, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Raymond, Gotthielf, John, Victor and 1 sister, Elizabeth .
Memorial Service will be at 10:30 AM Monday August 26, 2013 in the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND, with Pastor Ray DeLaurier, officiating.
Interment will be made in the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND.
