Marjorie Davis

Marjorie W. Davis, 95, Ypsilanti, ND died Friday, April 9, 2021 at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.

Marjorie W. Orr was born November 8, 1925 at Council Bluffs, IA the daughter of Marion D and Helen (Rigdon) Orr.  She attended the local school and grew to womanhood in the area.  She completed her GED and was employed as a CNA.

Marjorie and Charles B. Davis were married May 16, 1944 at Moorhead, MN.  They made their home in Homer Township (SE of Jamestown) where they purchased a farm in 1947.  Marjorie raised 8 children and helped out around the farm.

She enjoyed gardening, mowing the yard on her riding lawn mower, sewing, reading and did much babysitting.  She was a member of the VFW auxiliary.

As a young wife moving to the farm, she was taught a lot of her farm-wife skills by the ladies in the neighborhood.  There was always a large garden which meant a lot of canning and freezing.  The kids picked choke cherries and plums and she turned them into jellies and syrups.

We remember getting off of the school bus to the smell of homemade bread and caramel rolls.  Mom always had a kid run a warm caramel roll with melting butter dripping off of it out to the bus driver.

Mom loved to sew and made a lot of clothes for the kids.  Later in life, she took up making quilts and everyone got one.

Mom and Dad did a lot of camping with their children and grand-children.  The old camper-bus was seen in many states and Canada.

She loved to read.  Mom could sit on the deck for hours just looking around and thinking.  Mom loved to visit with people.  If she didn’t know you then she knew someone you were related to.

Mom loved her children and all of her family.  Always concerned about their health and wellbeing and where they were.

She remained on the farm until the last two months of her life.

Mom was the glue and the common ground for the family and will be greatly missed by all.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Larry (Paulette), Billings, MT; Brett (Annie), Jamestown, ND; Charlie T. (Bobbi), Ypsilanti, ND; Susan (Merlyn Beyer), Montpelier, ND; Peggy (Jim) Beck, Eldridge, ND; Donna (Brian) Dunsmore, Loveland, CO;  Charlene (Roger) Jung, Ypsilanti, ND;  3 siblings, Paul Orr, East Grand Forks, MN;  Clifford Orr, Ypsilanti, ND; and  Vonnie Entzminger, Jamestown, ND  and; 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchild, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
