Luella Vernice Meyer, 84, Gackle, ND died early Saturday morning November 16, 2019 surrounded by her family.
Luella Schlenker was born January 3, 1935 at Jud, ND the daughter of Jacob J. Schlenker and Christine (Drenth) Schlenker. She received her elementary education in Raney Township School and Jud School, graduating from Jud High School. She grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped on the family farm.
She and Harry C. Meyer were married November 1, 1953 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, ND. They made their home in Jamestown where Luella worked at the Farmers Union State Office. In 1957 they moved to the farm southeast of Gackle where they farmed. In 1994 they moved into Gackle for their retirement. Following the death of her husband in 2013 she continued to reside in Gackle. She entered the Gackle Care Center May 1, 2016. She recently moved to Eventide where she has resided.
She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle where she was a Sunday School Teacher and member of the Church Womens Group. Luella was a very hard worker. She worked on the farm, raised 6 children and made everything from scratch, kuchen, homemade noodles, strudels and more. Raising chickens, gardening, canning and flower beds were her pride and joy. Her childhood love for cats turned into a collection of cat figurines. She also had a collection of Salt and Pepper Shakers along with a Cookie Jar Collection.
Surviving are 5 children, Barbara (Bryan) DeWitt, Hazen, ND; Jeannette (Gene) Rost, Washburn, ND; Bonnie (Danny) Denning, Gackle, ND; Alan (Julie) Meyer, Gackle, ND; Peggy (Dwight) Fettig, Jamestown, ND; one son-in-law, Leonard Willey, Jamestown, ND;15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; one brother, Earl (Darlene) Schlenker, Kulm, ND; one sister-in-law, Virginia Schlenker, Richardson, TX; one brother-in-law, Herbert (Lill) Meyer, Jamestown, ND; 2 sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Melvin) Ammon, Lakeville, MN; DeLores (Arthur) Holman, St. Louis Park, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Cynthia; two grandchildren and one brother, Myron and 1 sister-in-law, Ruby Meyer
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday November 21, 2019 in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, ND with Pastor Nathan Wicks, officiating
Interment will be made in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, South of Gackle.
Visitation- 1-5 Tuesday at the funeral home in Jamestown, 10-4 Wednesday at the Funeral home in Gackle.
Prayer Service: 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Church in Gackle.
