Listen to Obituary

Ken, also known as 'Grumpy' by his grandkids, was a jokester and always loved messing around with everyone. Kenneth Dale Halvorson, 72, of Jamestown ND, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 10, 2025.

He was born in Turtle Lake, ND in 1953, to Gertrude and Henry (Raymond). He spent some time in McClusky, ND and then on a farm in Regan, ND with his four brothers and two sisters. His enjoyment of mowing lawns led to a little business (and a love of lawn mowers) in which he saved money for the arcade and candy.

In 1974, in Mandan, ND he met his wonderful wife, Wendy, through a friend. They went to church and were “forced” to talk while walking back home. God knew what He was doing when He “forced” those two together and they were married in Jamestown, ND on June 14, 1975. God blessed them with 50 years of marriage that they celebrated together this summer.

Ken and Wendy were excited to start a family together and had four children and eight grandchildren who were all able to bring out the sparkle in his eyes, even getting him out of his walker to play basketball with them a few times. He had a soft spot for his grandkitty, Bear, that came to live out her last 9 years with them and loved their new kittens, London and Dusty.

Everyone who knew him knew how much he loved working with his hands; woodworking (almost sawing a table in half), designing and building the most amazing Valentines boxes for his kids, creating intricately designed sugar cube churches, helping Royal Ranger kids at church make their pine wood derby cars, and refurbishing furniture. He also had a passion for collecting model cars and antiques. He faithfully ushered at Jamestown First Assembly for many years.

Ken will always be remembered for his love of puzzles, working late into the night to finish them while the whole family would join in helping. We will miss his joking around and 'what's". He was so loved by everyone in his life.

Beloved son, husband, father and grandpa, Ken, was preceded in death by his parents Gertrude and Henry Halvorson, his brother John Halvorson and is survived by his loving wife, Wendy Halvorson, four children, Jessica (Josh) Layman, Derek (Lacy) Halvorson, Tyler Halvorson and Erica Halvorson, eight grandchildren and five siblings.

Ken is at peace, whole, and living with Jesus now.
