Obituary

Kay Burkle, 88, Bismarck, ND died Tuesday morning August 26, 2014 at the Missouri Slope Care Center in Bismarck, ND.

Philipine K. Reich was born February 8, 1926 near Hazelton, ND, the daughter of Jacob Carl Reich and Katherine (Munsch) Reich. She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education and grew to womanhood in the vicinity. In the 1970's she received her GED at Jamestown High School.

She and Clifford Burkle were married October 12, 1952 at Hazelton, ND. They made their home in Jamestown where she worked at Jamestown College. She opened Kay's DayCare in the early 1960's. She continued to watch her grandchildren after retiring from owning her daycare. Following the death of her husband in 2001 she continued to reside in Jamestown.

She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and Church Ladies Circle. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the DAV and was a scout leader for years. She also raised many foster children.

She is survived by 4 sons, Lyle Burkle, Omaha, NE; Paul (Kathy) Burkle; Larry (Cindy) Burkle; Mark Burkle, allof Jamestown, ND; 3 daughters, Janet (Rick) Schapp, Bismarck, ND; Sara (Mitchell) Casper, Rice, MN; Candida O'Neil, Helena, MT. 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

Visitation- 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Thursday @ Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown

Funeral Service - 1:30 PM Friday August 29, 2014 in the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Martin Nussbaum, officiating

Interment - Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND

I'm greatly saddened at losing a gentle kind aunt. She was always one of the sweetest and most wonderful of the visitors to my parent's house. I am going to miss her so much.

Kay was a special lady in my life for most of my life. I have fond memories of her which I carry in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who loved her and was touched by her life.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Having spent some of my younger years in the Burkle home for daycare, I have great memories of both Mr and Mrs Burkle. They touched many lives and are now reunited once again.

My mom Florence is out of town having surgery & is sending her love & prayers to you all. She spoke to Kay a week & a half ago and is very shocked & saddened to hear of her passing. She will not be able to make it to her funeral & wants you all to know that she will be there in spirit. God bless you all at this difficult time. Kay was a wonderful woman & will be greatly missed by many.
