Joan Flaig

Joan Flaig, 83, Jud, ND, died Monday June 10, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society at Oakes, ND.

Joan Bender was born May 11, 1936 at Hitchcock, SD, the daughter of Rudolph and Lucile (Rodman) Bender. She attended school at Gackle and graduated from Gackle High School in 1954.

She and Marvin Flaig were married August 1, 1954 at Gackle, ND. They made their home on a farm NE of Alfred where farmed for many years. Following the death of her husband January 14, 1996, she continued to live on the farm until April 5, 2019 when she entered the Good Samaritan Society at Oakes, ND.

She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle.

Joan is survived by her 3 children, Kevin Flaig, Alfred, ND; Kurt (Jean) Flaig, Milbanks, SD; Holly (Lorin) Meidinger, Ashley, ND; 5 grandchildren ,Kurt P. Flaig, Alfred, ND, Keith (Special friend, Jennifer) Flaig, Lisbon, ND, Jolinda (Wil) Honeyman, Oakes, ND, Sara (Michael) Meidinger, Fargo, ND, Traci Meidinger, Grand Forks, ND; 2 great grandchildren, Cameron and Jackson Honeyman, Oakes, ND; 1 sister, Donna Darmstandler, San Diego, CA and 1 brother, Dr. Joel (Lynn) Bender M.D. Brooklyn, MI, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and 1 great grandson, Cayden Honeyman.

The family would like to extend a special 'Thank You" to the Hospice of the Red River Valley and the Staff at the Good Samaritan Society at Oakes, ND.
