Irma Hernandez

Irma Hernandez, 72, formerly of Wishek, ND died Thursday April 27, 2023 at SMP Health- St. Catherine South in Fargo, ND.

Irma Rosa was born September 27, 1950 in Mission, Texas, the daughter of Francisco and Francisca Ibarra.  She spent the majority of her childhood living in Mission.

She met Joe Hernandez in Illinois and married on October 23, 1971 in Palatine, IL.  They both worked at a machinery plant for a year.  They then moved back to Mission, TX where Joe became a beekeeper.  This career required them to relocate between Mission, Cozad, NE and they finally settled in Wishek, ND.  In Wishek, Irma worked at L&L restaurant and Travel Host motel. Most of her time was dedicated to being a stay at home mom and raised their 3 children Irma, Jose, and Maria.

She was a member of St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Wishek and attended mass and prayer service at SMP Health St. Catherine in Fargo.

Irma was the centerpiece of the family, as she brought the family together for holidays and birthday celebrations. She enjoyed making everyone’s favorite food and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed listening to music, watching her flowers grow and watching the birds come to her bird feeder and water fountain. She spent her time visiting with her brother Frank on the phone and with her family and friends reminiscing the good old days.  Irma always had a smile on her face and was glad to meet new people.  She was never afraid to ask, “Where are you from?”  She wanted to get to know the people that took care of her and their story.   She was a giving person and was full of smiles and kindness.  Irma was faithful and spent time praying the rosary and reading out of her prayer books.  The message she leaves behind is to believe in the Lord.

Irma is survived by her 2 children, Jose Jr. (Kristi) Hernandez, Bemidji, MN and Maria (Jamie) Regner, West Fargo, ND; 6 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Olivia, David, Dahlia, Trent and Roland; 8 great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Delmar Joe, Nevaeh, Gavyn, Autumn, Layne, Grace and Violet; one brother Frank, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joe; daughter Irma Linda; her brothers Juan, Cano, David and Julio; and her sister Rita.
